Well I had just bought my first eclipse. It is a gst spyder and one of the exhaust stud's broke off. I would like to do this myself, but I am wondering how much to just have a shop take it out? And also, what kind of effect will a broken exhaust stud have on my car? Will it harm performance? The cel is on for fuel trim bank 1 and fuel pressure level up. So can I tap it and extract it without removing the head? Or is it best to let a shop do this.

Pictures will go a long way.
Also do you mean the studs from your Head to you Exhaust manifold?
Or the Studs on the manifold themselves?

>>Regardless, i recommend you try it yourself, sounds like a great opportunity to learn and apply.

I Suggest a few things: A drill, tap N dye set, Drill bits , Wd-40.

Well ,let us know.

I would try PB blaster and then (with the manifold off) one of those reverse thread drill bits to see if you can get it to back out. If that does not work you have to drill it out and use a helicoil kit. You can do it yourself or have a shop do it if you want
