Well I know i'm not a newb and I searched but I had a question anyway.

I was doing my fuel pump, nice Saturday morning, and bam I broke the bolt to drain fuel from the tank. My question is, with a baby due in a few days and no money for buying a fuel tank right now, can I use something to just patch up the bolt hole...jb weld maybe? Only the top of the bolt broke off, but it is still letting gas leak. Or is there any way to extract the bolt without removing the tank?

Are you talking about the drain plug off to the side of the tank or the plug on the bottom of the tank below the fuel pump assembly? If you snapped the plug below the pump you can remove the pump and replace that plug. It holds the pump assembly in the tank.

Oh, and one other thing, you listed a 90 laser as your car. I figure that is still your car and is FWD since no AWD Lasers were made in 90- 91.

Sorry, not bumping my thread just updating. I called Kragen and they have this putty for gas tanks and it should stop the gas from leaking. Does this sound good or rather jb weld?

Remember, only the head of the bolt broke, the stud is still in there. Thanks!

Autozone, and probably some other parts stores in your area, carry Permatex gas tank repair kit. If not you can try JB Weld, and/or some good silicone, or epoxy, maybe even muffler tape(that comes with that really sticky glue), or you can try to use a screw extractor kit.

Really? Uhh I feel dumb because I thought the plug on the bottom was to drain the fuel. So it is on the side? Reading vfaq now :coy::coy:

Update, I have the fuel pump now but have no way of getting the stud out of the rubber piece.
