I asked my machinist and he said it didn't really matter b/c of having an iron block. But I wanted to ask on here anyway. Should I buy brass or steel core plugs.?

I'm doing a full rebuild, and ready to put it all back together. Just need to buy some core plugs (Welch plugs if defiant reads this. :p )

Nicely done, but I'm okay so long as you don't call them freeze plugs :p

I use brass on my motors. It's more personal preference than anything- you'll not run an engine long enough for corrosion to be an issue, and if one leaks, it's not usually anyone's fault. Sometimes they just do (I've not had one leak with anything I've driven, borrowed, worked on or owned).

Well, not entirely true. As long as they are installed correctly the major cause of leaky plugs is lack of regular maintinence. (not regularly changing antifreeze) It builds up an acidic compound and corrodes everything it can. the easiest thing to corrode are the plugs so they usually start to leak.
