brake indicator light is on

My brake warning light on my gauge panel suddenly came on and stayed on this afternoon. i've searched other threads for answers and checked all the things that those threads mentioned (things like master cylindar, pads, rotors, etc). does anyone else have any other ideas as to what could be causing it? i checked to make sure that the e-brake wasnt stuck by trying to smell and feel for excessive heat on the rear tires after driving it home, that was fine. i'm thinkin the sensor must be messed up, does anyone know how to reset it? or do i just pretty much have to live with that annoying light on my dash?

I know someone who actually took their car to a garage for this same problem. They got charged for an hours worth of work at the garage since the mechanics had to "find" the problem. In the end, it was low fluid level
