My brake light is on?

What would cause the brake light to be on? It came on the other day and it has me a bit worried.

The reason the light came on is because you lacked enough brake fluid for the sensor in the master cylinder. When the pads wear, the hydraulic braking system requires more fluid, using more out of the master cylinder, lowering the level of fluid in the reservoir. This will cause your light to go on.

There are only 3 reasons a BRAKE light turns on

1. low brake fluid
2. E-brake is engaged
3. Un equal brake pressure
The pressure-differential switch is used on most vehicles what a front/rear brake split system to warn you whenever there is low brake pressure to either the front or rear brakes.

Im pretty sure our cars dont have a pressure differental switch in the proportioning valve.

So its either one of the first to.

On my Eclipse I had this problem once, I'll be driving and all of a sudden the light would just come on, and stay on however long it felt like it. Usually it went away after the car been sitting for a while... but would come back randomly.

So I stopped by a shop to get a brake inspection, and he said everything looked fine (yeah I actually found an honest one). He said I could try this: Put the car in reverse, go slow, and pull the handbrake firmly a few times. BION, It actually solved the problem! Might be worth a shot...
