Caliper Cleaning

I had some calipers I needed to clean and powder coat but not having much time I decided to try something easier and faster than sandblasting and found something everyone can do that works great. I will say first this is somewhat dangerous but can be done safely. I regularly use Muriatic acid for removing rust so I hoped it would work for this. It is easily and cheaply available at pool supply stores or even Home Depot. Use outdoors only in a plastic container and don't breathe fumes. I used a hook on a wire hanger to dip parts. Here are the results with just a couple minutes soak and rinse in plenty of water
This removes any rust inhibitors and will start rusting in a short time but will make a perfectly clean surface for paint or powder coat. Do not place aluminum in the acid as it will eat it rapidly.
