This is the first time I've used a greddy BOV with a screw. I been using 1g bovs for awhile now and decided to swap over to this.

Question:

How tight should it be?

I know what it does.. I think. It tightens or loosens the spring pressure thus deciding how much pressure is needed to activate it.

Original question again, how tight should it be?

I took the screw out complete and put it back in and hand tightened it till it stopped then put an allen key on it and gave it 1 complete turn. This height looks to be the height it came sent to me at.

But how do you know where it should be set? You need it tight enough so that it doesn't leak at idle right? My idle is not flucuating at all its solid.

I guess the question is as long as the idle is normal and its venting correctly without fluttering does it matter how soft or hard you put it?

How do you test for a leak on a bov? Where would the leak be coming from?

-Cheers

To make sure there is no leak......just do a boost leak test. You would hear air coming through where you clamp the BOV on the the intercooler piping or if you have an adapter off the intercooler piping. If there is, just put some silicone around the edges.

Another to check how much boost you are getting is to get a boost gauge. Then you can test it out and adjust it to how you want it.

If it was leaking, it would leak from the large pressure release hole, where you should be recirculating to the intake.

I tighten mine like 1 turn at a time until I hear compressor surge, then loosen it one turn. How much boost are you running?

The tighter the screw, the more pressure it takes to open the valve.

As far as I know, he was talking about a leak from the screw being too loose. So that would be a wrong answer. The adjustment screw has nothing to do with how good of a seal your BOV makes to the IC pipe. You should have the proper gasket and clean surfaces as well as the correct bolts to attach the BOV to the IC piping. Then it will seal fine.

Read my above post for the correct answer.

Do you rev it up with it in neutral or take it for a drive and do it? Its hard to put a load on the engine when its sitting still.

Compressor Surge should sound like a flutter right?

If I rev mine up in neutral normally it doesn't blow off and then I hear a sound that sounds like a bird chirp. It might just be the engine shaking the car but I think my other dsm did it also. Blow off sound.. pause.. high pitched chirp sound. Is that normal?
