i just bought a 1992 eclipse gst i want to know what kind of maintence besides the obvious stuff (like spark plugs oil hoses abd belts)that i have to check and or replace before i start modding

It would probably be a good idea to change the timing and balance shaft belts if you don't know for sure that they have been done recently. Even so, it's a good idea for peace of mind. (I know you said Belts, but people don't always think about those specifically when they say belts).

i have to check the owners manul to see if the belt was replaced recently hopefully they were like me and wrote everything they did to the car on their.

i have another question is there a easy way of changing the alternator belt on the turbo eclipses becuz the bottom bolt to the alternator is so damn close to the exuast manifold?

another question i know im not supposed to do this but what hose do u take off of the blow off valve to make it vent to the atmosphere i know the concequences i just what to see for my self what it actually does?

Um, yeah. Cool you have two dsms, but sounds like you should have 2 hondas. If you want to vent the bov, at least search how to do it. Look at the bov, there is a hose that goes to the intake tube. Take that one off and plug the hole in the rubber intake and have fun stalling at every stop sign.

you know i hope your funny making a wise remark like that.i love dsm i dont like hondas at all.i was just curious i never had a turbo before i owned a non turbo so im in a dif world now but thanx anyway

Ok, so I was being sarcastic. But it's not a good thing when a person's first question about their new turbo car is how to make the bov louder. Check the modification process in the tuning guide and it will give you an idea of what you need to make the car faster. Venting the bov has been discussed hundreds of times and if you want to read all opinions, just search venting bov. I guess I meant to say, if you don't know how to vent the bov, you shouldn't be doing it, becuase you'll probably mess something else up in the process. :thumb:

i have been working on cars for about 10 years now i think i know what im doing. I rip trannys apart engines i just never had a turbo car before and i am following the tech guide to the t i just wanted to experiment myself

and to let you know hondas dont have TURBOS

yea 10 years experience in N/A cars is one thing but once your throw boost into the equation its a whole other story. i'd read as much on the turbo layout and functionality trust me even i knew my share on turbos and how they work and every little tidbit helps even reading the article howstuffworks.com has. boost is another tier in the automotive world and trust me or anyone in it that yes, boost kicks ass.

no shit. but how could someone with your great expertise not know how to vent a bov?

Not to egg the "flaming" on, but just because a BOV is simple to you and you may know what it does and how to vent and what to do and what not to do. If you've worked on N/T cars for 10 years then switch into a different type engine/car, you wouldn't know what to make of it. Take what you know about blow off valves and the DSM engine, then go work on a rotary, not all of your knowledge will transfer to each thing you work on. If you're a unix guru, you've lived with it all your life, then you jump onto something like Mac OS X, which is in essence a fancy gui on top of unix, you wouldn't know half the crap that's on there, but you would learn, and by learn you may have to F' some things up on your system before you know what to do and what not to do, so don't blame the guy for not knowing what a BOV is or how to vent it.

BACK TO THE TOPIC...

...check for old vacuum lines and replace them, replace tranny fluid with BG synchroshift or alternate, timing belt, have the radiator flushed possibly.
