I have a 2g gsx 5 speed. I have numerous "issues" as all we dsmers do. most noticeably right now is when under full accel it pulls hard and spools loudly til about 4k rpms. usually 4-6ish should pulls its hardest. it doesn't. not at all. im at full boost at 4k rpms. stock 14 b turbo. blown turbo? bad tune?

secondly my motor seems to run much much louder than my roommates 96 gst spyder. engine noise is louder and seems to be working much too hard for the amount of power its producing. bad tune?

lastly, my speedometer hasn't worked since I purchased it. I did however purchase one from ebay but turns out that was a flop. once installed the speedo gear stripped itself within a mile. turns out that gear is application specific. my local mitsu guy is useless and I cant seem to find a reliable solution.

I purchased the car used and from what ive uncovered is it sat unused for numerous years. not sure how many but im thinkin 5 or so. it had 3 owners including me in the last 3 years. and I think it was sitting from 06-10 or 11. I do drive it everyday and seem to burn a bit too much gas. I know this is a lot of info but just a lil insight on where to start would be great.

thanks guys

"bought a used GSX. could it have a bad tune?"
I was unaware you could buy these cars new.More info is needed. Fill out your mods list. So we can help you. You keep asking if it has a bad tune. Does the car have any source of Engine management or monitoring as in O2 Wideband boost gauge ect? Also if the car sat for so long. You probaby need to start with the basics. Full tune up spark plugs, fuel filter, drain the gas tank, oil, ect. Then i would check the turbo for shaft play and do a boost leak test.

Start with a basic tune up. Then boost leak test etc etc I'm all for helping a DSMer out but Vacaville is out of my range. But I'll be coming in and out of this thread helping with what I can.

no mods at all. bone stock. since I bought it in aug of last year iv done plugs wire distributor, fuel pump and filter. I believe maybe it was a highly tuned rig before it sat for so long. carfax says rebuilt engine somewhere around 62k.im pretty sure its been on the road about three years now. since then people have tried to piece the puzzle back together and have done an ok job so far. I payed 3600 bucks for the thing so in think its a steel.

heres my theory. it once had at least a 16g, FMIC, air intake, fuel intake, exhaust and who knows what else. im pretty sure its been tuned. I think the motor had issues so the owner parked it. it sat for many years. he sold off all his parts along the way and and never returned the tune to stock. its since been sold and parts have just been thrown at it left and right.

is there a way to check my ECu for tuning other than plugging it in? and if not, where can I go in this area that KNOWS their DSMs?

thanks for your time on this one fellas.

Well Vacaville might be a Lil far but at least he's in California hahah B)... from what I know you can't tell if your computer has been tuned by opening it up and checking if you even have a chipped ecu and if you do who ever tuned it might have left a sticker on the chip, also check where your rev limit is as oppose to stock

It sounds like a boost leak to me, check all your clamps and hoses for cracks. :thumb:

I am on the air force base. I have a pretty busy schedule, but I could probably stop by sometime and at least give some in person advice. I've been around the cars a few years now, so maybe I can help a little. Shoot me Text sometime and I will figure something out to stop by. 707-6eight5-4561

im no specialist but I live im vacaville and if you ever need a hand feel free to hit me up I have a 1990 gsx like I said ill give any hekp I can if needed

you say the car is bone stock, but also say that it has a 14b. If it does have a 14b you may be flowing much more air than a stock turbo and running out of fuel system. also how much psi are you running? I have heard many people stating that the 2g bov is junk and doesn't hold much pressure at all so that could be a source of your problem. I would also check timing(mechanical and ignition) and run through all the basics since the car has been sitting for that long.

good luck

thanks for all your input, long story short it was out of time by 180 degrees. not sure if it was advanced or what but holy cow its a whole new car .a few of you offered your assistance and I might hit you up in the future. car runs great now. a few more tweeks and it might be time for mods. thanks again everyone

Glad you were able to figure it out.
