HI, I recently bought a 1992 eagle talon 2.0 non-turbo from a friend who told me he drove it and it died on him. He left the car and told me i could have it and that he didnt know what was wrong with it. I have no spark to the plugs. I replaced the battery, Coil pack and the modulator, as well as replaced all 4 spark plugs. i used a light tester on all the wires from the battery to the coil and there is juice going to it but nothing comes out of the plugs. I've checked all the fuses i can find and they are all find. The car cranks but thats all it does. A couple times it went to start then it went back to just cranking. i dont know much about the car so im hoping you guys might steer me in the right direction. The kid took out the radio(not sure if that has anything to do with it). Thank you for reading my post and any info is greatly appritiated.

is the ECU fixable or something that has to be replaced. if so where can i find one cheap.

I just had the same problem. it ended up being the cam angle/crank sensor. But I have also had the power transistor go bad. Also it could be either the ecu or the coils! I know that I just listed a load of possibilities, but I would start with the cam angle.

well its late now and i gotta find someone with an ohm meter. i got my manual handy and gunna check the sensers and then the ECU. If its the ECU how much would you want for it.

today i ripped out the ECU and the thing looks mint, doesnt smell funny, nothing looks burnt....

today i bought the camshaft sensor and thats not either, its either the ECU or a possess stubborn car :p

I just got off the phone with a friend and we have been going through a similar problem. It ended up being a fuse on the battery terminal. It should be the one closest to the dr. side in the 3 fuse block. It's a20 amp fuse listed as "NPI", and is blue in color. Just another suggestion.

i check those, i replaced one that seem loose, but im still dead.

i also noticed when i turn my key my ECU clicks. im not sure what that is.

Well the only other thing that I can think of, is either the coils, or the power-transistor. Wich for me is easy to go and swap from one of the other 30 dsm's that I have. I would hate to suggest that you keep trouble shooting and going and buying more parts if there not bad, so I would suggest that if you have any friends or aqantences, with a similar car, that you might ask for some help with checking your parts on thier running car. What I mean is take your Power-trans off, or coils, and check it on their car, and if it still runs, then you no that its good. That's how I check all my electronics, but like I said, It's easy for me with as many as I have.

i hear ya, yeah i dont have that option. all my friends have newer cars (WRX, celica, Accord, Neon), not one of em has a DSM heh. someone i know has a 90 laser and he said my ECU is prolly shot but he didnt look at my car. Where is this power transistor? i replaced the coil with a new one, along with the modulator and cam sensor.

Again I wish I had my camera working, But the best that I can explain it, is its just below the coil packs. When you unpluged your coil packs you might have noticed that there were 2 plugs, The one for the coils and just below that a long plug that plugs into the power-transistor. It's held on by 3 10mm bolts.2 into the intake and 1 into the head. Get a flash light, youl see it.

Steve. :)

ahh yes, thats what the book called a modulator, its right underneath the coil, that was also replaced. a Man at a local mitsubishi dealer lent me one and told me they hardly ever go bad. i tried mine and his.

I had this same problem with a 96 dodge neon. I replaced the coil pack along with everything else. By chance I grabed the coil pack off from one of my friends neons and tried it. Guess what? It started right up. The new coil pack that I had put on was defective. Just a thought. If you could borrow one from a running car and try it, you would know for sure that its not that. Good luck!

I am thinking of picking up an nt 94 laser but its got a 1.8 engine.
Its also does similar thing. Now not so sure should pick it up.

You have changed out everything pretty much..plugs..and you would think you would still get spark even if they were weak and bad wires you would think would fire intermittently not all go dead. And coils again can't see all of them going bad.Power transistor but you said you changed it out.It does seem like you aren't getting any power to the coils. So for sure no blown fuses..sometimes they look good but are bad.Double check.Sure coil pack wiring harness is ok,no bent pins or something..And if its not that then you are pretty much forced to take it in and get it figured out.And the ecus do go bad pretty commonly but at least non turbo ecus and even turbo non eprom ecus are available cheap enough from used sources.

Hope you get it figured out.

i got an update on my car. My dad had a guy look at it today and found out that the wiring that runs my cam sensor and fuel pump were screwed up and replaced those and the car fired right up. ty for all your help.
