I'm seriously thinking of boosting my 420a pretty soon and I was wondering if any of you had any problems with ~8psi on the stock crank of a 420a. I've read through all of the n/t conversion forums and there seems to be nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No one has any experience with these motors they can share with me? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I would have asked this question in the non turbo specific forum. That is where most of the 420a guys with turbo set ups hang out and offer advice. Also, you won't last very long here if you continue to "bump" threads. Bumping a thread is replying to your own thread in an attempt to bring it back up to the top of the list. Good luck with your project.

Well, as I cannot post anywhere else right now because of my "rookie" status, this was the only option I had. And I am very aware that I "bumped" my own thread, but I figured it was the only way to get someone to look at a "rookie's" post. Thanks for the reply btw.

the 420A crank will handle upwards of 500HP, no worries there...your rods will snap at about 260HP though, the pistons shortly thereafter

Ya this site is insanely strict about posts for some reason.

Thanks Wicked93GS, i had planned on buying the howell long rod bottom end kit, but i was just worried about replacing the crank or not. But i think i'll be ok, as i'm not planning on running insane amounts of boost to top 500 hp. As far as the posting goes, slammed0, i dont really know why that is. I'm just waiting on that 30 day mark and the 25 posts and i'll be good to go. Thanks again for the help.

You can boost the 420a. You just cant put as much boost as the 4g63 engines. If you run around 8-9 psi you should be ok. Before you do anything make sure you have good gaskets your compression and your engine is tuned good enough. If all of that is good you should be ok :talon:

heh, I have a 420A related block(its a built chrysler 2.4 actually) and have boosted(in spikes anyway) to 20psi, but then I have a forged bottom end so thats no surprise...I think both 4g63 and 420A are great engines for boost(the 420A only has the downside of having to have new rods and pistons thrown in first, a weekends worth of work if your as much of a motor building freak as me anyway, come to think of it I could probably do it in a day if I leave the block in the car and planned on leaving the main bearings int he car), oh and otiosity? that long rod kit isnt worth it, just get an early chrsyler 2.4L block, and use SRT4 internals, swap your head on and fabricate a passenger side motor mount(and whatever else you need to do to swap it into an eclipse...its just that simple in a 1st gen neon though)

Thanks man, but that sounds like a lot of work and the cost seems higher than the engine kit. I may go ahead and get the standard kit, but since they are the same price, i figured why not. The name's Ryan by the way. Thanks for all the help, keep the tips coming. I need all the help and pointers i can get before i start this build. And yes, i am an engine freak when i can be, it wont be much more than a weekend project if i can get a few friends motivated enough to help. Maybe if i feed them, they'll be up for it. Thanks again

Thanks calcifer, but i'm also a member over there. I've read through all of the articles there and they said about the same thing everyone on here said. Thanks though. -Ryan
