For starters forgive me I'm sure this question has been answered more than once.I'm on my Droid therefore I can only research so far.

Can anyone tell me if the crank in our cars is cast iron or forged. I've read mixed reviews on it. I have also read thy our crank can support 500-600 HP. I'm not sure how true that is.

I'm going Turbo. Just figured knowing what the crank is would help with my decissions in the future. Right now I'm looking are eagle rods wiesco pistons w/ 8.8:1 CR. Not sure about bearings yet. ARP head studs and head bolts. Haven't made up my mind on the head work. Pointers would be nice to have. Maybe a 20g Turbo (I know the Mani will need a mitsu flange welded on).
My target is 350 to 400 fwhp. Its a stretch but from what research I've done its possible with a good tune and built engine. I would like to hit 15 to 20 lbs. But I'm not sure the extent of that. I know the rods and pistons I have picked out can handle it. But can the stock crank and what's good for bearings.

Thanks in advance for any help.

a droid is like a supercomputer compared to the phone i search and post with! LOL i would worry more about the tune since thats what usually breaks cranks at a moderate hp level. if your engine is is good condition, you dont beat on it at every light, going to get a quality tune from a professional and know how to drive then i suspect the crank will hold to your asperations. hp usually doesnt kill cranks, bad tunes and bad drivers usually wll kill it before raw well tuned hp will... IMHO. your on the edge of what it would hold though so if you have the money you might look into it.

The crank should be one of the last things you look at for a 420a build, even if you are shooting for 400hp. I'd worry more about an LSD, clutch, and the proper fuel system to support that power.

thanks for the posts guys. the 420a project is out of the question. i found a clean 95 gsx virgin. it does need some work. but for the price i really can not complain. bye bye fwd n/a hello AWD Turbo
