sup dsm'ers, hope all is well. I'm new to this forum and even dsm tuning. I've recently purchased my first dsm. It's a 96 eclipse RS for $600 and it was the full car just minus a few parts and being assembled, LOL( I'll post pics later). I have the whole drive train, all the accessories & all the interior. Now the car is missing the little stoppers that go on the shifter cables, on the tranny and inside, it's missing the slave cylinder cause it's a 5 speed, and the whole exhaust minus the stock header. Since the purchase I've assembled the whole car, man there's nothing to 420a. Now to the point; the guy i bought it from had the car turbo'd and removed the rusted factory exhaust and replaced it with 3". Before the car was sold it was disassembled, the turbo was removed, the exhaust was removed and the engine was rebuilt with stock parts. I need the car to be running asap for work and SPL :thumb: but I don't know if it will run with the 3" exhaust on it. I don't have money for an exhaust right now and he said he'll give me the 3" for free if I come pick it up along with the clutch slave cylinder. Will the car run, will mpg suffer, will it throw codes, etc? Thanks for your responses in advance.

How are you going to connect the 3" turbo exhaust system to the cylinder head?

If there was a turbo and turbo manifold on the car, and the 3" exhaust system mated to that.. what are you going to use now that the turbo setup is gone? LOL

The stock header won't work with a turbo downpipe..

you're right I'm screwed, I can't get on e from the salvage yard b/c they cut the cats off. Well i guess I'll be saving up for one. thanks for the responses

I had a 2.5" system on my GS for about 2 years and took it off because it completely trashed my low-end torque....I can't imagine how pathetic it would've been with a 3" system. I might've gained 2hp on top end, but the tradeoff wasn't worth it- now I'm back to the stock mid-pipe with a custom-built tail section with a stainless 2.25" oval Dynomax muffler and the low end torque is back to near-stock.

I wouldn't do a 3 inch exhaust on a non turbo DSM. Stick to a 2 1/4 or a 2 1/2.

Magnaflow makes a system for the 420A that is 2.25" mandrel bent stainless steel. We had it on my gf'f GS and it sounded great, very little rasp. Didnt seem to lose any low end.

yea 3 inch exhaust is too much for a non turbo, with a all motor car you want to build back pressure so a 3 inch exhaust will be a over kill. go with no more the 2.25
