Look at the map dude....you go outside it over 6k at 22 psi.....so you probably shouldn't push it tooo much more than that

okay as far as what boost limit the big 16g will hold, i don't know exactly. but i have been running 22psi on my big 16g for over 2 years now and have not had one problem with it. i do have the supporting mods like a front mount, fuel system, port work, exhaust, ect. also i have turned it up to 25psi to race a couple of times and didn't have any trouble. they are vary reliable turbo's if you change the oil and let them cool down. just my 2 cents.

i ran 20lbs but no more or it wasnt efficent, for some 30,000 miles too and it still pulled hard the day i toke it off, thats pretty knock free with 94 sunoco gas.

Yeah, I just looked through all my old SCC mags, and that article on turbo choice is awesome..... it explains the same process as crank just showed to find flows at given RPMs for certain conditions.

Even though all these processes are great to estimate specific outcomes, they are still just estimations. I say this because I've seen an FP red flow 55lbs/min and push 30 psi....this might sound normal to some, but I live at almost 6000ft. I used to only base all my information on these compressor maps, but I realize real world applications vary. These numbers seemed really high to me so I looked up some stuff.

First, I realized that the maps says the 60-1 can support a 2.8 pressure ratio. Well, up here the atmos. is only 12psi, so 30+12/12=3.5. WTF? I just learned that the 60-1 will only make a pressure ratio of 2.8! The other thing I noticed is that the 60-1 is rated at 55lb/min at sea level, how was it flowing that up here?

The point of all this rambling is that these flow maps and such are just tools to help people guess at what is going to happen. The only way to really know what your turbo is putting out is to log airflow on a datalogger or to dyno the shit and account for drivetrain losses and do some more calculations.

Oh and on a side note, the big 16g map says that it peaks out efficiency at 71% and the regular 16g map says it peaks at 77%......I've never seen a map with that low of efficiency. Is this a mistake because lots of people use this turbo with stock intercooling with no problems?

Sorry about the long post, but this is a really good topic.

with my setup do u think i can hit the 11's thats my goal on the b16g, im not upgrading till i hit those numbers, the track opens up this weekend i just want to know some of your thoughts....

i plan to push it pretty hard, im putting in 5 gallons of c16 when i go

You could do it for sure. Weight is your enemy, so drop as much as you can. Passenger seats, rear seats, spare and jack, A/C and anything else that can go should. A 2 step rev limiter or stutterbox will do you well also.

Does anyone know for sure whats the fastest time put down with a b16g...i get so many different answers dont know which is true.

i hope you were jokin...

hey maybey ill run my 14b at 120psi and see what that does OMG

ok big 16g - looking at compressor map it does well 20-24 after that doesnt do so hot so im gonna say no more than 24psi

but there are a lot of little things u gotta look at also... ported, clipped?

hey man u can run like 8s :p if you weigh like 1200lbs

back to weight, weight reduction will do wonders... what was this post about again :p

My car has run 118mph in the 1/4 with an Evo III 16G, which is the fastest mph I have ever seen out of a full weight car (particularly a 2G) with a 16G.

After I saw my Evo 16G pump out 44.1lbs/min of airflow, I no longer put much faith in efficiency nor compressor maps (though I haven't seen an Evo 16G map). And it did that at 26psi. I just kept on turning the boost up from 22 to 26psi, and the car just kept on getting faster. That is my measure of efficiency. Is the car faster at that boost level than a lower one? Then it is efficient enough for me! :)

Well man, true it can probably run at higher boost levels...up to 30 or possibly higher, but the higher above 22-24psi (where its really rated for) the more strain you put on it...

The bearings and fan blads can only handle so many RPMs, u start pushing that and you might be severely decreasing the life of your turbo

*Remeber that turbos spin up to 100,000 RPMs and they are "rated" by PSI to only be able tho handle so much (so lets say at 20 PSI your tubo is spinning 50,000 rpms well at 30psi its prolly spinning more like 100,000rpms - which might be too much for the internals to take for very long)

FP told me that running 26psi at higher engine RPMs once in a while should be fine. Remember that as engine RPM increases, so must turbocharger RPM to maintain a particular flow and boost level.

The larger diameter of the Evo 16G's compressor exducer (same size as the 18G, 20G, and big 16G) helps to bring compressor RPM down at higher flow rates. And I suspect that is why Mitsu went from using the small 16G to the big 16G compressor wheel on the Evo when the Evo III came out.

And the effective inducer area of the Evo 16G is higher than that of a regular big 16G. In fact, it is closer to that of an 18G than a big 16G.

I only do this at the track. I don't think there should be any issues. Hell, I saw a 30psi spike on that 26psi run. But since it was only at 5000 engine RPM, I suspect that the turbocharger RPM was actually lower than 26psi at 7500RPM.

So does anyone know what the record for a b16g in the quater i plan to hit high 11's with mine
