First up.. (Please address which problem you are answering..Thanks!)

#1. I did a boost leak test.. I could hear a leak right away (I used a bike pump :p). It sounded like it was coming from my battery area? What is in that area that would leak air? Expensive to fix? Also, one of my Vacuum lines was leaking air.. There are 3 lines on the TB, should they ALL be capped so no air is sucked in or pushed out? Also found a hole on the screw of my MBC..... Which leads me to

#2. The hole on my MBC, its on the actual screw.. Odd place, leaks air out fast. Can i just plug that up or what? So sure if its MEANT to be there.. Also, Should there be a spring INSIDE the MBC? Every time i turn the screw on the MBC, the boost might go up or down.. Its never consistent. I just have a home made one.. Below is a picture of the hole on the screw.. Just want to know what i can do about it. Wrap it, plug it or leave it??

#3. Finally.. My engine bay has oil all over.. I was told before it was my valve cover gasket. I just want to confirm that. So is it or isnt it? ALSO, I was told of a few ways to CLEAN the engine bay from all the oil and stuff.. I was told break cleaner and carbon cleaner.. Which should i use and how do i do it? Id like to REALLY clean all that oil and s*** off without having to take off every part and clean it.. Here are pictures..

1. Only thing I can think of near the battery area is the intercooler piping to the TB. If its not that maybe emissions hoses. You can get rid of them... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...-speed-shop-vacuum-diagram-removal-1g-2g.html

2. The hole I believe should be there. I'm pretty sure mine has one but I'm not sure if it leaks air fast like you mentioned. There is supposed to be a spring inside as well as a ball which is similar to a ball bearing. When you tighten down you increase boost, loosen up decrease. Make sure you have an aftermarket boost gauge before you start messing with boost.

3. As for cleaning the motor, get some engine degreaser from your local auto store.

Isnt there a valve or something up towards the battery? From what it sounds like, its sounds as if it is UNDER the battery..

As far as my MBC, would that be a bleeder valve? Isnt there 2 kinds of MBC's? Bleeder Valve and Ball & Spring? If i have the ball and spring one, do i need the bleeder valve? Air leaks pretty quickly out of that thing for me.. But maybe it works fine when im actually driving and such?

I think there is a plastic tube under the fuse box, which is part of the intake piping.. maybe the leak is in that area. Spray everything down with soapy water and see where the bubbles form..

My engine looked like that when I bought my car, and I had the valve cover gasket replaced and it looks much better.. Maybe clean the engine off with degreaser and then keep and eye on where the fresh oil leaks from.

I read that the hole on some MBC's is there for a reason, and you just need to plug it during the boost leak test.. but its not significant enough to cause any issues with your air/fuel ratios.. someone correct me if I'm wrong..

That hole is supposed to be on the wastegate side of your MBC. You want to make sure you do NOT test your hosing with the wastegate connected - you could very well blow the diaphragm apart on the wastegate, not to mention that hole leaks air while connected. I just plug up the other hose on the MBC whenever I do a test. This link may help you - it details some pretty common areas where you might run into boost leaks:

1. There are a few vacuum lines running by there take your battery out, check around on them for splits, or maybe one isn't connected.

2. The hole in the MBC is supposed to be there. I think someone drilled it in the wrong place, isn't it supposd to be on the nipple that runs to the waste gate? When I boost tested I just took a pair of locking pliers with two sockets , and clamped the lines off while I did the test.

3. get yourself a gallon of purple power its like 5 bucks at auto zone. Get one of those industrial spray bottles they can shoot a stream like ten feet! then get the engine good, and hot, and take it to the car wash. Spray the Purple power generously on there, and give it five minutes or so. Its ok to spray it around the engine too. I did it on the underside of the hood. Use the pressure washer. That worked wonders on my engine bay. Those type spray bottles are good for spraying under the car where its hard to reach thats why I like them.

Alright so I just spray the cleaner on everything that has oil on it? its pretty caked on in some areas, will it still clean it? I just need the car warmed up correct?

As for replacing the valve cover gasket, anything I need to know about taking the valve cover off? Or do I just un-bolt it and bolt it right back on? The gasket easy to replace? I should clean the area where the gasket goes correct?

Yeah it not real hard. Just don't tighten the bolts down to tight, and you'll be fine. They only need like 3-4 lbs of torque. If your going to use purple power, or another degreaser cleaner I'd at least wait five minutes then spray it off. If your going to use a can type solvent thats different. Greased lightning is another cheap powerful cleaner like that. I just like purple power better. Watch out for clothes or they'll be bleached spots on them too.

As far as the oil problem goes, I too had the same problem when I got my Talon. I replaced the valve cover gasket (looks like that's what you should do too) and a copper washer on the oil feed line to my turbo which was leaking also.

To clean up the oil, I used a combo of brake cleaner and engine degreaser that I picked up from Autozone. I also got a few, very small wire brushes so I could scrape away at the caked on oil. I did it when my engine was cold, sprayed the cleaner, then used rags and the brushes to clean it. Worked great.

Good luck with your car.

After I put the purple power on the car, I have to wash it off? Or leave it? Its ok to take a hose or pressure washer to the engine like that???

Sorry for all the questions.. Strong believer in doing it right the first time.. Especially with a DSM haha

Shane

after you spray the degreaser on the engine(avoid spark plug wells and coil pack), let it sit for 5 min. and spray it off. It is safe to do, just avoid soaking electrical components.:thumb:

and hose is safe to use but, pressure washer would be ideal. Just be careful around electrical items, they have alot of power.

Thank you..

Still trying to figure out where the boost leak is.. Its around my battery area (under it).. Its driving me nuts.. Unless me ear is playing tricks on me..
