bolt on upgrades

As far as bolt ons go anything else really wont net you any gains. But there is cat backs, IM, ecu tuning. But don't expect much.

Auto or manual? You are at the end of your "bolt on" list. The most bang for your buck is gonna be this...

Complete 420A/Neon MegaSquirt EMS Kit - SymTech Laboratories

There is a ton of info in here on it...

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420a-engine-management/374659-megasquirt-links-new.html

If this sounds like something you are interested in let us know and we can get you started, the 420a auto trans is the first weak link and the ecu is the second...

@ Travis - do you think the obx intake mani is worth it on a n/a with just basic bolt ons? Seriously asking here not trying to be a smart ass.

Honestly, no. I wouldn't waste my money. WHEN i get another 420a what he has is as far as i plan to go with it. The stock IM is by far much better than obx.

Forgot all about the UDP. Never owned one but i have heard they make quite a difference in our cars.

you could sell your car and buy the turbo edition :thumb: other than that not much. I promise you wont get more than 100 more horses out of it if that. And that 100 if you ever get there will cost more than a decently priced gst or gsx... not even including the sale price of your car. maybe gonsider "downgrading" to a 1g turbo or awd ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

:applause:

"We've had some trouble in the past with owners of factory turbocharged DSMs coming into these forums and advising N/T DSM owners to sell their cars and buy a turbocharged car. That is not to happen anymore."

Right from the sticky at the top of the page....

Yeah that was kinda dickheaded and overused of me. do they make cams for n/t? those are kind of bolt on... maybe a stroker kit for the extreme...

nitrous? only rag on your tranny when you wanna... if your engine is strong (not old and leaking) low level nitrous can be "safe" in moderation. keep in mind more power, more pain with the nos though...

Cams are(to me) a bolt on but the down side to running a cam(safely IMO) that is worth changing the stockers out for requires you to at least change the valve springs out for some stiffer ones. I know people have run them on stock but I just don't like the chance of valve float or breaking a spring because of a 200 dollar part and cost you a motor. So that might change the view on most people changing out the stock cams for a more aggressive one. The cams that don't require an upgrade(stage 1, crane 12's etc) in my opinion aren't worth the money for the performance gain. :thumb:

Yes, there are cams made by crower and your car will sound bad as$$. Also you can always go with higher compression and and nitros but make sure to use pistons rings that are design for nitros. and don't forget the catback exhaust sytem.

Well my car is manual. I only spent $20 on the header junk yard pull and $10 on the cat back from my cousin. This car is my DD but I don't wanna dump a lot of money into this car. I have $500 limit. What could I get for that limit??? You guys helped me out a lot thanks.

for $500, get AFX Computer 1996, 420A Manual Transmission +UPD and call it a day, maybe over time a SRI.

On another note, I've thought of making an "end all bolt-on upgrade list" like Delta did for the Turbo, but lets be honest, no one even attempts to looks around for the millions threads just like this as is, so to do so would more than likely be a waste of time for me.

Furthermore "F" the obx IM in the "A" super hard till it bleeds. For the little performance gained over a stocker thats ported and all the effort you have to put into it, its not worth it IMO. stick with a ported stocker, or best of luck looking into getting a AMM intake. Although there was a decent intake linked on 2GNT a few months ago.

I completely forgot about the AFX ecu for all cars now(not just the 97) and would probably make the most difference for you. Only downside, if you want to consider it a down side, is that you will have to run premium gas in it from that point on.
