Bolt fell into timing belt! HELP

So i was working on the engine and a bolt fell behind the timing belt. what should i do i really am not in the mood to rip apart the engine, i dont want to start it until i know it isnt goinng to trash things. what are the odds that this will fall through

try using a magnet to fish it out, if that doesnt work...then ull probly have to take the cover off and start taking things apart...goodluck!

Pull off the timing covers and get it out of there, not a big deal

Your timing belt cover should completely enclose the belt; both at the top and the bottom. Since you dropped a bolt in there, I'm assuming you have the top cover off. If a bolt fell down into the lower cover, it won't fall through, it will sit there until it is removed. If you leave it, it will more than likely get injested by the timing belt and give you a massive headache. I had a bolt come off and fall down there and it shreaded my timing belt. Luckily I caught it before the belt could break, but it is definately not something you want to risk.

As suggested, try a magnetic extension before you rip off the covers.

how hard is it to get the lower cover off the timing belt

Use a telescoping magnet first like whats his name said. try ousdside first and see if you can get the bolt to stick through the cover, then work it gently up to the top of the cover. then try inide if it'll even get down there. if not that trust me lower covers a bi***, but dont leave that thing in there! no no no!

I tried that with no luck so i dont know i need major help. that lower cover looks like its going to kick my ass im thinking of getting a tow and just getting a new timing belt put on anyway

patients my friend... brieth innn.... and out.... and listen to my wackey ideahhhh.... drill a whole at the bottom of the cover and try to get at the bolt from there. when your're done, cover it with maybe a rubber grommet from home depotttt. whatadayah think?

My buddy just had this happen to him but he didn't realize the bolt fell in there...he bent all the valves.

this has happened to me before... it sucks, take off your wheel and undo the bolts on the bottom of the timing cover... i believe theres like 6... u can pry the timing cover back slighty(i am emphasizing slighty) dont break it... use the telescoping magnet in there and you should be able to get it out... it took me about 10-15 min i hope that helps

well i tried everything but i ended up having to take the whole damn thing apart. just got it all back together

Got the bolt right? That's what matters. It's still alot less work then having to replace the head/valves

the same thing happened to me but it completely ate my timing belt and my pistons had valves for lunch haha not fun
