A buddy and I are having a hard time determining if my rings in cyl 1 are bad or if its a bad h. So I was thinking about running blue devil through it just to see if its the hg.
I figure if anything and it doesn't seal then try resurfacing the head and throwing a new hg and go from there.

Just looking for opinions

Smokes white out of a vented catch can, oil cap, and dipstick; but when I plug vent and close oil cap and dipstick hole it poured out the exhaust and looks to be squirting coolant from a line behind the turbo.

6bolt swapped 2g

The blue devil wouldn't cost me anything,
And a new felpro only runs me $20

We also comp. Tested all cyls and the only one that's low is cyl 1 at 60lbs but car idles and runs just fine... extremely confused .....

Sounds like you need to fix a coolant line and possible headgasket. Please if you like your car do not let that blue devil crap anywhere near it. Here's a simple and easy test to determine if the HG is blown. With the car cold start the engine and as it warms up hold the top radiator hose. If this hose pressurizes within a minute and becomes rock hard then your leaking air into the coolant and the headgasket is most likely at fault.

Blowby/bad PCV set up.

You are blocking oil vents, cap, dip stick tube, catch can

When you block those 3 the only place for blowby to go is thu the PCV and into the IM, the oil vapors are being burnt and giving smoke out the tail pipe.

Find Calan's PCV tech article and read that to make sure your catch can is hooked up correctly.

Oil smoke is a lite blue, almost white. So that can confused with coolant burn of a white color.

You make no mention of coolant loss, or mixing of coolant in the oil, that is 2 of the main signs of a bad HG.

If you use the HG sealant, be ready to have to replace parts in the coolant system, rad, heater core, hoses, water pump. If used improperly it will look like you shoved a football in the rad, where it loads up
and balls up, blocking the coolant flow.

Even with 60psi on 1?

Bad rings on #1, that would cause the blowby into the crank case, then that air would travel up the oil return ports, into the VC baffles, overloading the PCV system.

Lando.. you knew what I was talking about... you just wanted me to post more detail for the new guys. :thumb:

Add a little oil to.number and redo the compression test three times. See what you get. Numbers stay improved, pour some dot3 brake fluid in there and leave it in a couple hours. Then spin it out with rag over hole. Pour alil atf in, spin over, drive till it stops smoking and redo test.

Wouldn't bad rings in cyl number 1 put stress on the other rings and cause the car to fall on its face??

No. It could have a miss or stumble to it. But as RPM increases it will be less noticeable.

When a compression test is done you check cranking compression, not running compression.

Damn! You guys are good. Props for BogusSVO and the rest of the wisemen. Thank you guys. I've learning a lot since a join this website.

Joined. Sorry

No coolant in oil (first thing I checked... not really a new comer to dsms or cars at all just to turboed cars)
The only visual coolant losses that I have noticed is coolant burning through exhaust and coolant leak that's soaking the block from behind the turbo somewhere. I'm going to find a leak tester and see where its coming from.
There is not a noticeable stumble or miss at all
Keep in mind I've only had this talon for about a month and the guy before me didn't know much about it either

I really am taking in everything you guys are saying I'm just trying to stress all possibilities and hoping to not have to dump a ton of money in the car

Sealer is now out of the question too.

Just tried a coolant leak tester last night and found a small leak down on the input hose to the turbo but that's it. I searched it over for probably 3 hours or so and that's it and the gauge on the pump didn't move after that. Wouldn't that negate the possibility of the hg being blown?

Another. Way to check for head gasket is remove radiator cap and start, ( only when engine is cool of course) if you see bubbles or coolant shoots out like a water fountain head gasket is toast

Had similar problems in my evo and it was the rings. They got washed out from running to rich before tuning.
