Hi i have a 2.0L fwd 5speed 93 non turbo laser.

on my way home from work the other day both of my cv's let go and all the gear oil leaked out. My question is with both cv's blown would this prevent the transmission from engaging into gear? Or when the cv's let go that this could have damaged something inside the tranny as with the clutch fully depressed it will not go into gear.

I have one new cv but still need to buy the drivers side, before i do this and throw more money into the bottomless pit i'd like to know if i'm gonna need a tranny rebuild also? Before this incident the tranny and clutch were working great. Once the cv's blew i noticed the clutch pedal travels to the floor way to easily.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Well this happened to me in my saturn. when i blew the tranny my clutch would be very loose and there would be a lot of play in it but it wouldnt shift into gear. You might have blown a hole in the tranny and if thats the case you'll need to get a whole new tranny...

LOL The jokes are to easy for your title LOL

:nono: LOL !!

I should have also mentioned that with the engine running "it won't go into gear" but goes through the gears just fine w/engine shut off. I think the reason for this is because it's a hydraulic transmission?? with all the gear oil leaked out it can't engage while running??

Decided i'll take my chances so went and picked up another new cv today and new gear lube. we'll see what happens once those cv's are replaced, i have a good feeling that everything should be ok in that transaxle. <prayin>

What do you mean the cvs let go? I have never seen a pair of cvs snap. It sounds more like a blown front diff. which is inside the trans. Are you sure that your hydraulics in your clutch are fine. Master and slave cylinder and the line. I wouldnt start throwing cvs at it. The reason it wont go into gear when its running sounds like a clutch problem to me. If you can go through the gears off and not while running it something to do with the clutch not releasing fully causescausing it not to go into gear. Just like if you where to try and putting it into gear without pushing the clutch at all. The trans is still spinning internally causing it not to go into gear. you could have blown the trans as well but cvs are not your answer.

I have never heard of to cv halfshafts "letting go" either. Most likely something in the diff let go or something with the clutch blew out. Either way I would say it's time to pull the tranny out.

true.

i got under it and noticed all the gear oil leaked out the drivers side inner cv boot. i'm in the middle of changing the right cv since it's buggered and pops like hell when making sharp turns and acceleration; and i've had a new one for it for awhile.

just for shits and giggles i went and grabbed the new left cv today and a few ltrs of new synthetic gear oil,(frgot the inner seal and not sure if i need it or if it's included with the new cv assembley) will see by tomorrow if i can fix the issue with what i have and inspect that inner seal.

then tackle the trans. i've also got a 94' rs gold fwd NT and it won't stay in 4th gear so by the time i get the 93 finished i should have lots of practice. then sell both and get an awd dsm.:aha:

so, replaced both cv's topped up the gear lube and bled the clutch line from the slave cyl. and also topped up the clutch reservoir. when i start the car it goes into gear smoothly. I notice though that once i've got the thing rolling it goes into 1st and 2nd a lil' rough. Could this simply be a bent fork? Before the cv let go it was shifting all gears smoothly.

I'm gonna try re-bleed the line in case there is still a small air lock, tomorrow once i get some more day light. At least now i can get it into gear where as when the cv let go it wouldn't go in at all.

There should be a retaining ring in the trans that holds the shaft in place. It might be broken or mangled from someone being too forceful LOL

the clip looks fine.

returned the new cv again for another and picked up a few new output shaft seals and so far everything seems to be holding up nicely.
