Okay well my gvr4 has been acting up ever since i moved out to phoenix. Over the grapvine (uphill climb) it was overheating and felt super slow and i pulled over and only had half the coolant in the system. It has also been running lean as shit at wot without knocking and has been pushing coolant into the overflow. When i check it evertime its cold it always has air in the system even though i make sure to top it off. The air fuels will go to my usual 11.2 but 2-3 seconds or so after it hits boost it dies off to around 13.5. The water injection doesn't even make a difference. My car will not get hot if i just cruise it without getting into boost, but as soon as i start getting into boost levels past 3psi it seems to start getting hot and wont stop till it gets to 215 degrees. Ive changed my rad cap, thermostat with a 180, and i put in a 1g mishimoto radiator. The oil does not have any signs of contamination either. Compression test came out 155-155-155-145 . I noticed when it was hot and with the radiator cap off i see small bubbles coming out almost looks like a spa.

IM pretty stumped. The car runs pretty normal unless i get into boost then it just feels slow and runs really lean but has no knock. it seems to get the hottest on the highway or when im parked idling. The car has a MLS gasket and arp studs installed by the previous owner so i have no idea of the mileage. So my question i

This is probably a stupid question, but do you have the heat shields on the exhaust manifold and O2 housing? You can maximize the efficiency of the heat shield by polishing the surface facing the exhaust pieces and painting the outer surface black (this process essentially minimizes radiative heat transfer).

I hate when proven members with some time under their belt post in the newbie forum.....

On that note. You said that the previous owner installed the MLS gasket. Do you know of any machine work that has been done to the matting surfaces, ie, the block and the head? Unless the gasket has a matting surface of an RA-50 or better it will most likely push coolant. Have you had anybody drive behind you to see if they see any white smoke?

Sounds like, if you have bubbles in the coolant, that you have a blown HG and it's pushing compression into the coolant system. Time to Do a leakdown test. I would also say that you MAY be able to save it and try retorquing your head bolts. Besides that... it's likely time to pull that head and start checking for HG damage.

Edit : I didn't notice the MLS part. Go with the info above.

I have no idea what RA the head was milled to. I purchased the Galant for $300 from a guy in the Air Force. I have replaced almost everything on the car except for tearing the motor down and doing a R&R. Today i just found that one of the heater hoses looked like it has a pinhole size leak. at a closer look i saw some dried coolant coming out of it. I guess that could be why I'm overheating since it would be pushing coolant out the hole while creating air in the coolant system. i still cannot figure out why I'm running so lean though. I did a log via DSM Link and found my o2 sensor looked to be acting up and not cycling like usual. It shows the WOT pull as being rich but my AEM wide band was showing 11.2 then fell the 13.5 around 5k rpm.

Here is a log for reference...
btw the pull is at 141 seconds

It would help greatly if you logged your wideband.

Also, you do realize you have two CELs right? If you are going to do a log to check anything, it's good to have an idle log to verify that everything is ok before posting up a cruise log or at least have an idle log in there with coolant temp at at least 180*.

That is weird as my car has not even thrown a CEL at all, but after checking the log i can see the baro and intake temp were off. im going to reset the CEL and get an idle log.

IIRC the baro and IAT are located in the MAS itself so you may either need to clean it or it's going on it's way out soon. I would at least check the wires and re seat the plug.

Im pretty sure my plug came out a little. The thing is my 2g maf adapter plug doesn't click in so its kinda loose fitting. Ive lately been noticing that the Air fuel estimate on link is about is a bout 1 whole number off from what my wide band reads. SO if it says 14.4 at idle my idle is somewhere around 14.9-15.2. At wot it says 10.1, but my wide band will read 11.5. Anyways here is an idle log.
