Looking for opinions/ advice.....I have a 1995 turbo with almost 200,000 miles ( not sure because odometer did not work)

Anyway, I noticed what looked like coolant in one of the spark plug wells after I went for a "spirited" ride in the car. I am thinking it is a blown head gasket. The car runs hot, but right now it is in storage. I have not driven it very much becasue I am wondering what my options are..

I eventually want to put in a 6 bolt, but I want to keep the 2g head. I do not have big power goals and I am not going to go bigger than a 20g. I have not removed the head yet, but if the bottom end looks semi solid, I was going to have the head rebuilt, new head gasket, head studs, timing belt ( with water pump, etc), a new turbo and a new radiator.

I just want to drive the car and save up for the bottom end. I am not going to be driving the car hard ( less than 5,000 miles and no racing in the next year), but I am thinking I can get the car to drivable condition and then replace the bottom end next year.

Is this a good idea? I was thinking as long as the bottom end does not grenade throwing parts everywhere, it might be a way to be able to enjoy the car until I get the money for the motor.

Thanks.

you have coolant in the cylinders? or where the plugs go into the head? WTF

why would you put a 6 bolt in and keep the 2g head? 1g flows much better. ports are almost twice the size.

Where the plugs go into the head.

I'd like to keep the 2g intake manifold and not have to rig a map sensor setup. For my goals, I think the 1g head would be overkill....but, if i get a good deal, I'd probably use it.

I'd really suggest checking into that.

Think about it, if you have liquid leaking past the plugs that means a few things:
1. This leak could be decently bad if fluid is collecting around the plugs. It should simply burning off which means that you should see white smoke. Really it should most likely be smoking if the head gasket is leaking. You need to find out why there is no smoke but fluid collecting.
2. Bad leaking around the spark plug so if fluid were being forced out means that there is a bad seal in that spark plug well. This should be a loss of compression.
3. If it's leaking out it could leak in and fluid IN a cylinder is pretty darn bad.

So I'd try and pinpoint this leak and fix it. I wouldn't suggest driving it til then. It just might be spilled fluid and it was running hot due to a failing water pump. Let us know. :thumb:

Just for a different view, my dream build would use a 2g head. 2g flows much better. The 1g flows more overall. Flow and how it flows need to be considered as separate entities.
