I just got the car all together and have put a few miles on it. I have noticed that after I boost and let off the throttle I will get some oil smoke. It doesn't happen while just cruising just after boost. I'm thinking turbo shaft seal, as I have some trace oil in the intake piping to the throttle body. Also it doesn't smoke when the engine is cold only after it warms up some. I recently replaced the head gasket. Did compression test and leak down. It all looked good so I don't think that's the issue. I'm running the oil called for in the Haynes book(cant remember the exact weight off hand) Should I run a little heavier oil maybe? I appreciate the help.

It does not smoke at idle at all. The oil drain doesn't have a reason not to drain. It has a new seal with copper spray, not silicone. The pcv valve is new and working as it should as far as I can tell. I did have a mishap with the old turbo that I had forgotten about when it died. Sent a lot of oil through the system. I don't think I ever cleaned it afterward. I'm going to pull the pipes and ic tomorrow wash them out real well and run it some more. If that doesn't help I guess I'll be calling the g pop shop. Thanks guys

If you're using a 14B as stated in your profile, verify your oil pressure source is between 42-48psi peak as instructed by Mitsubishi. Use a restrictor if necessary to achieve the pressure needed to keep the turbo alive but not over-oiled.

Over-oiling a used 14B is a common mistake....guys will take a 20-year-old 14B which has been fed 25psi from the head all it's life and put it on their 2G, feeding 100psi of oil into the turbo from the filter housing with no restrictor- you can imagine the stress this puts on the sealing rings which are already weakened by age.

Also, if you recently replaced the turbo keep in mind it can take up to 500 miles for all the oil to burn out of the exhaust system depending how much is in there. Spill a cap full of oil on the outside of a hot manifold and see how long it smokes. ;)

Thanks for the great info. I am running the oil from the filter housing with a .075 inline restrictor. I can get the head oil feed line and try that. I just put on a new cat back this weekend, but am thinking there could still be some oil in the flex coupling in the downpipe. Im still going to clean out the ic and piping and run it for a little bit. Ill keep you posted on what happens.

So I just got done cleaning all the pipes and intercooler. Very nasty stuff. I drove it around town as much as I dared to(no insurance at the moment). It isn't smoking as much but I still notice a little. Could be stuck in the flex on the dp. Other than that it seems to be going good

Quick update: I have put about 70 miles on it since last night. The smoke is still present but is less intense. Im going to drive it for the rest of the week and see if it clears up. Im also going to pull the charge pipe off periodically and check for oil. Even though the oil level onn the dipstick hasnt moved. Thanks fellas
