I know questions about this blow through setup has been beat to death, but for some reason i have not heard anything about re-using the stock mas and simply relocating it after the blow off valve instead of before it. All i hear about are the gm mas and the maft setup which i know works, but will simply relocating the stock unit work as well? Im on a tight budget and looking for any way around spending an extra $250+ for the maft/mas combo.

It would be cool if this is tried and would actually work. All you gotta do is extend the wire of the stock maf.

The MAFT is used to make the GM MAF communicate with the DSM Karman signal. Aside from this task, it does fuel injector correction/control since most of the people doing this mod has a mofidied turbo setup.

Actually I don't see why this wouldn't work (be warned Im usually wrong about this type of thing ;)). Please keep us posted if you do it, I would try this but I dont have a DSM.

I don't think it will work. When you put in after the turbo, there is going to be a lot more air going through the maf then if it was in the stock location. I'm usually wrong too tho so who knows.

Apparently this wont work because of the amount of air traveling through the uicp is different from that of the intake and the vortex created is different. Thats what i hear at least... so, I guess it wont work, thanks though

The air traveling through the UIP is the same amount that goes in through the intake. Think about it, Air cant just appear out of nowhere, It is sucked in through the intake. The only thing I would be worried about is the additional heat, but I don't know how much heat the MAS can take. It dousn't really see much in its stock location since the air hasn't passed through the turbo yet.

well this is the response i got from dsmtalk.com

No. Your stock Karmen Vortex MAS wouldn't be able to monotor the air properly because the air being pushed through it on a blow thru setup would not generate a good karmen vortex wave on the sheadder bar and the sensors wouldn't pick up the pressure diffrance. Look up how the stock MAS works and you'll understand why it won't work and why they have what is called MAS over-run.

Sounds so complicated that im not even going to try and contest it. Let me know what you guys think about it though

also, this one was also posted
Not to mention that you'd have the same problem as the guys trying to go blow through with the plastic GM MAF's. You'd put 20psi to it and blow the MAS appart.

Yes they are right on one thing, and that is that the Kharman Vortex type of MAF must have air PULLED through it not pushed. I have a short vid of how it works kinda neat, but it basically counts the number or air swirls that come through it. If you try to push air in it doenst swirl very well and the MAF cant read it.

I know a couple people on this board and others that are running more that 20 # and havent had a problem with the MAFT not to mention all the Fbody and Corvette guys that run alot of boost on there stock MAF's.

Blown Vettes, Camaros and WS6s only can handle up to a maximum of 10 lbs of boost thru their MAF. Compared to people here that run 12 minimum and up to 25 psi in their motor, the 4G63 is truly an incredible engine.

There might be a validy to above claims that the DSM maf should not be subjected to high positive pressure (downstream from turbo) but with the "pull versus push", cant you just turn the MAF around and get the same results?

Anyway, I would just go with the MAFT+GM MAF if I were gonna do this setup. Alot of people had validated its use and it works.

I have alot of friends that have F bodies and I frequent there FI section on there boards. I have a buddy that is putting about 14 pounds to a stock LS1 MAF and hasnt had any problems. Alot of guys there thath have turbo or SC combos use them and they are fine with 20 or more lbs. Van on DSMTalk, a local, has a 3065 running high 20 psi and he hasnt had any problems either. Of all the time that thos MAF have been out, early 90's I havent heard of them taking a shit after so much boost.

No matter how you turn it, flip it, or touch it a Kharman MAF cant not have air blown thru it. It will not read correctly and your car will run like shit. If it could have been donw then I am sure someone is the 10 plus years DSM have been around would have done it.
