Alright so here's the deal...I'm finally about to get started for the spring and everything, but I need to know whats up with all these forsaken BOV's. I think that I'm probably going to vent to atmosphere, but with this new BOV on the market I need to know if anyone knows about the TurboSmart Blow off's please let me know. I was going to get a TurboXS, and then go with MAF and 3" MAS, but I just wanna know wahts up before I make any purchases. And also, all you guys with Greddy Type S, both vented an recirculated, tell me how you like your Blow off, especially if you have expierenced TurboXS before...
Thanks

This thread, in no way shape or form, deals with engine performance.

Do something about this, Defiant. Please.

What do you lube it with?????
Usually motor oil. I've also tried white lithium grease, among other things, but just regular oil seems to work best. I want to try axle grease (or wheel bearing grease or whatever you call it) but I don't have any-- I'm thinking that will last longer without getting sticky.

Thanks! I am a little hesitant to take my Type-S apart to lube it, but we'll see how bad it flutters down the road. Its just rubber inside, right, so oil would not damage it in any way correct??

I can't speak for the Greddy-- I've never seen inside one. The TurboXS one is a brass piston inside an aluminum cylinder, and it gets a little too stiff sometimes and starts to flutter if you don't lubricate it.

here are my opininons, from personal experiance. all these were run with a vpc on a 2g with a hrc super 20g turbo on hrc hard ic pipes
greedy-flutted leaked then diaphram ripped R.I.P
apexi-great, liked it but it leaked not sure why now on a shelf in the garadge
hks ssq-chirps like a little bird works good
now I have a tial, havent heard it yet because the car still isnt running

I personally have the TurboXS H34 (recirc) and I'm satisfied with it. It sounds real nice and doesn't leak(at least for me). Although I'm only running 15psi. If I had the chance to do it again, I'd get the greddy type s. If you plan on doing the maf-t, I'd recommend the TiAL. It's what I want to get ultimately. Many, many more mods to go before that time comes though. Good luck and hope you're happy with whatever you decide. :thumb:

Thanks for everything guys...
With reading alot of the posts...and defiant basically telling me im a moron :p as well as talkin to a couple cats around here i decided on the greddy type s but gonna recirculate it.

Bada Bing

tail is the best

im not too fond of these bov's

ive pressure tested two of my buddies with them, and both of theirs leak at the flange. ive installed one too, and i can see how this would be a problematic seal; the tiny ass little bolts that attach the bov to the ic pipe strip really easily. just a bad design imo.

i vote crushed 1g bov, unless you need a tial for stupid amounts of boost (30psi+)

I suspected that on mine as well (but no proof yet since I'm still constructing my pressure tester), so I put RTV around the bottom edge between BOV and IC pipe.

Im assuming you are talking about crushing your BOV...

Open up a vise, place the bov in the vise with the flange side and top part against the sides of the vise, so as if you were to tighten the vise it would "shorten" the BOV. Then, tighten until the pressure nipple (where the vaccume hose attaches) is barley touching the top of the BOV, and bam you are done. No leaky leaky. Does that help?

hks is the best, it sounds awesome. I had it on my mr2 turbo it never leaked and i was boosting to 21psi multiple times! I never even adjusted it, just bolted it up and went 21 psi!

I olny stick with HKS SSQV on all of my cars it sounds great and makes girls scream.:D

I got it on my Talon for over 2 months now and it's great

Oh yeah it never leaks and holds up to 30PSI
