I decided to boost leak teak my car tonight, I found that the j-pipe to turbo was leaking , the coupler to the j pipe, and the bov flange. Fixed all those and retested and I hear a huge leak from the back of the engine bay.
I proceed to spray soaping water on the throttle body then the intake manifold gasket when i see the intake manifold weld on #4 cylinder is split alost 3/4 of the way around the runner.
So anyway does anyone know if jm fab intake manifolds have a warranty, I was going to try to jb weld it but then i thought this is a 600.00 manifold i shouldnt have to jb weld it back together.

P.S This also screws me for having it tuned this week guess i have to reschedule yet again.:mad::mad::mad:

That's just because you weren't double clutching like you should. LOL

Seriously though, if they won't cover it then just have a shop lay a bead real quick. It'll take them like two minutes.

you think i will have to take it off for that cause its supposed to get tuned thursday

What makes that funny is my buddy was working on his dsm in the bay next to me and I was like dood you have got be kidding me i blew the welds on the intake manifold. him (Ok Paul Walker let me guess you fried the pistons rings to huh) rofl

Im going to contact them first thing in the morning , If anything this will fall under workmanship. The car has never been over 16 lbs yet.

Who did you buy it from? As a JMF dealer I would want to deal with this personally handle this if it was a manifold I sold. The warranty, even though JMF will ultimately do the work, should go through the dealer that sold it.

Hope all goes well for you!

I bought it from a vendor at the carlisle car show last year or the year before so i guess im going to have to try to go through jmf directly ???

Good to see dealers that actually care about their customers to this much of an extent. :thumb:

Honestly if the car has not even gone over 16 I do not see under what circumstances would it cause the intake manifold to do that

Ive been putting the car together for almost 2 years ive drove it 1300 miles since i bought it in jan of 2009. i wish i knew why it cracked at the weld aswell, it just makes no sense how such a quailty piece does this. even if i was running 50 lbs of boost it shouldnt have done this.

Happened to me too. A 'friend' took my keys late at night for a joyride and blew the main fuse trying to start it resetting my DSMLink settings. 30psi of boost + stock settings made for a lot of misfires that cracked a valve spring and ultimately the manifold.

Ouch I hope your buddy helped pay for some of the damage.

Would have been paying for all of the damage if it was my car. That's messed up!

OP get some pics and where are you getting the tuning done at?

I sure hope this doesn't happen to my JMfab manifold.. It should be here in a few days.. If you didn't even net 16+lbs and it did that, imagine what my 6262 at 30psi would do to it.. I have about 5 JMfab things on the way to me, I thought their stuff was top notch?????

BTW turbo4, where are you getting tuned?? I was going to take my car to Extreme, but if you know of somewhere closer i'd be interested in talking to you.. Maybe a group dyno session would make it cheaper for both of us?

You are over an hr away from us.

I personally only know of 1 AWD dyno and that's in York. Unless some one has a VCE to go else where.

I have family in New Cumberland as well as Halifax, so I'm out that way from time to time. I live right off RT 78 in Bethel.. We should all get together this summer, maybe for an evening at Maple Grove?

im going to dms, cbrd is the only awd dyno close but chad wont tune dsms or he dont like to. Justin at dms has a vce aswell.
But im getting a street tune done jon91tsi a night a maple sounds like a plan ive been to alot of tracks but not maple grove. So that one is on my list this year,

My car is down there right now getting rebuilt.

He was supposed to let me know when he got the VCE :ohdamn: eh oh well.

CBRD is way over priced and messed up anyway. If you don't have an EVO or Subaru then it's another $50 to run on the dyno. That's some great business practice there, drive away customers :notgood:

When i talked to justin at dms he said he had finaly ordered a vce and it should be in this week .

Oh i forgot i talk to jmf today and they said they need the serial # off the bottom before they can do anything which is understandable. Im going to pull the mani and drive it down to their shop to have it fixed they said they will fix it either way and if i drive it down it will be done today or tomorrow when ever i decide to drive down LOL.

Plus i can buy a nice coolant over flow while im there.

Finally LOL I said I was interested in getting that done months ago and he was going to get one in but regardless, he has one and the dyno is now going to be available.

Maybe I can have him do a dyno break in and some tuning as well :thumb:

Finally back from my road trip to km fab and jz tuning Jm fab fixed the manifold in like 15 minutes really cool guys down there, then i stopped in at jnz tuning talked to paul and picked up a magnus heat barrier intake gasket non cruise throttle cable , throttle body gasket, symbroski shifter kit and jnz tuning short throw shifter. Cant wait to get the car back together and get it tuned thursday.

Talk about bad luck i blow a tire at 80 on the way back hopfully my spurt of bad luck is over.

Had a local guy come over a couple of days ago and I did a boost leak test on his. He had this problem as well with his but at the #3 AND #4 runner. Looks like it was split all the way around. He contacted them about it and waiting to hear back if it's under warranty still or not. but he has to give them the serial number first that he's having a hard time trying to find it.

I was planning on getting a drag manifold from them eventually but now I'm kinda scared to fork over $700+ and have this happen. Wondering if I'd be better off with an Evo 3 manifold that'll last forever and have the Curt Brown special done to it. Hmmm....

I wouldn't use that intake manifold heat barrier. If your intake manifold is too hot then you have intercooler issues that need to be addressed, not isolation from the cylinder head issues. Your coolant system is for cooling the motor, not barrier gaskets and intake manifolds.

On top of that I know at least one person that the barrier failed on and it cost him a built engine. I would never install one on my enemies car, no matter who is selling them or how good they claim they work.

I put an water to air intercooler on my car and you can beat the ever living dog snot out of it (I live in Texas, in the heat) and pull over.... and place your hand right onto the intake manifold, it's ambient. ANY heat traveling from the head to the intake manifold is going to be negligible unless it's an extreme case where your cylinder head is incredibly hot for some reason (WTF!!). I think this is a bandaid fix for an intercooler setup that doesn't do it's job.

tldr; a $60 piece of plastic isn't the answer to your cooling issues and won't be a good substitute for a properly cooled setup.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, man. Any fabricated manifold can crack, but an overwhelming majority never do. The good thing is that if it does crack, it's incredibily quick and easy to repair anyway.
