went to go take my rebuilt 95 talon out. to go around the block to test drive and make shure everything was all good. got 25 feet away from my hose and heard bang got out and pushed it back to my hose and on the way back found chunks of the block on the car.wtf do i do now spent all my funds on that rebuild. was thinking of parting her out and getting a new one. awd is to much work to keep takeing the motor out.:b:pray::beatentodeath:eatentodeath:

I hear ya on the HOLE int the block thing. Last year on the 26th of march LOL.Was the last day i drove the baby. Since then I worked alot and put my mind to what i wanted my car to look and be like, and 1 year later Im almost done. I swapped a 6bolt block fully built, 2g head fully built, new turbo, shep trans build, injectors, dsmlink, gauges, interior. I mean everything. If you really like your car i would keep it and rebuild for what you want. Even though it may take some time it will be well worth it in the end. If the body is rusty or you dont think it would last then I would start a new project DSM.

its a good body and got a deal going for a block and rods and water pump for tradeing my 2g maft and gm mas. just need a crank and a flywheel and 1g cas and oil pan . want to do 1g block and rods with 2g pistons and head.:coy:

I have a 7 bolt block that im giving away free, and I think I also have the crank and pistons.....but I dont know if its worth paying the shipping

Yeah when mine went it was cylinder 3. The rod snapped in half and when it was still rotating (for the few secs after) the broken half of the rod busted a hole on the backside of the block and also ripped up the oil pan. Took an hour to take the transfer case off cause the pan was so far dented down. worst day ever.

Sounds like a warzone happened inside the motor. Pull the oil pan sometime too and take some internal pictures of the demolition. When I bought my car, one of the previous owners put multiple holes in the block... I think if I remember properly, the oil pump died.

Not meaning to thread jack ya, but just adding to the destruction! This is how the motor came, first DSM I ever bought.

why is mine so small. all these pics have bigger holes in the block than mine. what is the cause of these blown blocks.my buddy had a flywheel shatter on him took out the flywheel clutch throw out bearing and shifter cables axle cup and dented the hood and tore the lobes on the block off.

Once i removed the bolts from the tranny/intake bracket that whole back part of the block where it was shattered at just fell off...you could fist the back side of the engine.

I would not say running lean caused that, more like over reving the engine, the rod streched ad popped then took out the block.

the change in direction from down to up to down stresses the beam, causing it to fracture there (also will cause rod bolts to strech and spin rod bearings)

diffrent styles of con rods are rated for so many feet per second before they fail.

and it is additive, meaning it may not happen when high in the rpm band, but the damage is done, once it is streched the rod will not return to iits normal length, so repeated abuse of this sort keeps the rod streching at this point till it fails.
