So I got my Eclipse back up and running. I was in the process of bleeding the coolant and at idle it was pushing out of the top and overflowing. I figure I’d just throw some rags around it and keep bleeding. It kept pushing coolant out of the top and when I shut the motor off it shot more out.

Anyone have any idea what this is? My guess is head gasket but I’m really hoping that’s not the case.

Could it have been overfilled possibly? It took almost two full jugs of coolant.
Also: the oil doesn’t look milky?

Hmmm no I wasn’t using a kit like that. I just haven’t had coolant push out this seriously before. On my Talon I’ve never had to use one, the bubbles come out very tamely and don’t push coolant up. Maybe it’s just big bubbles that’s pushing everything out?

Do a leakdown test. Have cap off and observe for bubbles.

Have you tried burping it when the engine off? Thats usually all I do and I've never had issues and cars temperature stays perfect.

I just bring my talon back to life after a week and a half, and that same thing happened to me, I was nervous when I saw all the water and air coming out, I even rive the engine a bit and throw out a lot of air and water.

I have some funnels and I cut one up And put it on, I cut it so it can get tight on the thermostat housing and fill it up with water,

That helped a lot to remove the air out of the system, just fill the tunnel and rive the engine a bit to get the air out faster.

Just a thought. Could your thermostat be stuck shut?
Also after engine is warmed up (whether engine is then on/off) are you squeezing the bottom radiator hose to burp?

Had that issue once. Mine was a ton of tiny bubbles and kind of foamy a bit? I have a video somewhere I could dig up. I obviously did a leak down test with the coolant cap off before taking it apart. Ended up being a small headgasket leak to the cooling system. I also had over heating issues and pushing coolant issues though.

I’m leaning towards just bubbles that I wasn’t expecting. I did take apart a good amount of the cooling system, more than I ever have on the Talon. Maybe I just haven’t seen this many air bubbles before. Will try to cold-bleed it and maybe get one of those big screw-on funnels.
I considered this but the car made it up to temperature, and I saw the thermostat open and liquid start moving. It also held steady exactly where it should be. Also, yes I had the car at a bit of an angle and was squeezing the lower rad hose.
Thanks for all the help guys, I think this one’s figured out though. Just came down to a few too many bubbles.

Get one of the funnels above and burp it again, check your thermostat if problem persists. My friends car is having an odd issue with overheating and we burped it just to make sure the air was out of the system and quite a bit was stuck in there.

Video in this thread was what mine looked like with a blown head gasket.
