So I am beginning my engine build after getting the block checked and cleaned at a good local shop. I stopped after noticing a black coating inside the block that looked fairly old, cracked and peeling off. I this possbly an OEM coating or something else? Also should I go ahead and peel it off or Dremel it out? For background on the engine, it is from a 97 GSX and was rebuilt 24K miles ago and in good shape but is being rebuilt after a I removed a spun bearing recently. Thanks.

It was definatly paint in the block. But it's mostly gone now. I didn't mess around with the crankshaft journals or the edges or the cylinder walls.
By the way, THANKS Defiant. I read a lot of stuff on here and you always seem to know the answers or point people in the right direction.
