Okay i just bought a 95' eclipse GSX. I bought it yesterday. Has been running completely fine with no problems. Well today i did a donut in a parking lot and it stalled out on me. I was low on gas so I figured i ran out of gas. I tried to start it again. Started and stalled instantly. Did that one more time. After that nothing. Pushed it to a gas pump and put gas in it. Still nothing. Any ideas on what could of happened? My roommate thinks its the fuel pump. After trying to start is several more times the starter stopped working. It went from turning over to not turning over now. Im lost as ive never had a GSX. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

anyone?

Are you getting any check engine light? Do you have a way to check for codes?
Have you looked for any intercooler hoses that may have popped off?
Does the car still have the original 7-bolt motor?

I'm going to guess that you lost an intercooler hose.... so chek that first.

as far as the other issue, check all your ground wires for corrosion; make sure they are making good contact. or perhaps you just wore the starter out?

An easy way to tell if the fuel pump is working is to turn the key on and listen for the pump whine. Also sounds like your battery went dead from cranking it over. If the starter ticks or turns slow charge the battery.

I dont hear a sound from the fuel pump from turning the car over. one time aftter turning it over trying to start it i thought i heard a gurgle sound but it was only once, They think i might have sucked something from the bottom of the tank into the pump from running it empty. Yea the starter worked one minute then the next it did nothing. Battery didnt die. Still was turning over good then it stopped. I didnt know the stock turbo came with an intercooler.

And also for the starter. when i try to turn it over it clicks and the dash lights come on for a sec.

Dude. Your battery is dead, clicking starter means low juice, get it charged up, throw some gas in her and check for blown off / loose intercooler pipes as previously stated. these cars dont like starting without theyre intercooler pipes on. keep us posted. :hellyeah:

the fuel pump is activated by a rpm signal, so you cant turn the key and listen for the pump whine, some cars you can and some you cant. like a dsm.

my gsx won't do donuts, i'm depressed now. well it will, but in the snow only LOL.

This...

But there should be a connector near the throttle body. Youll have to look on the fiirewall there are three total. I cannot for the life of me remember the color but its either blue black or brown. :D

One of those will activate the fuel pump when you apply 12volts to it from the battery. If the fuel pump is good it will kick on and you should hear it running. If not then the pump is toast. This method rules out MPI.

Cheers!

i dont think my battery is dead. When the battery reaches a certain point on the gsx does it just not try to turn over? my windows roll down fine and my radio works. the crank didnt even slow down before it stopped nor did it click at all.

it makes a single click when i try to turn it over not multiple.

yea my gsx does donuts only in the snow. i was doing them fine earlier on an icy parking lot but the slushy one killed my car LOL.

also i dont know if this matters but my boost gauge says its at 3 lbs of boost. i didnt pay attention to what its normally at off because i just got the car.

could my solonoid have gone bad in my starter from tryin to turn it over?

and does a 97' gs and a 95' gsx have the same starter and fuel pump? I still have my wrecked 97' gs in the driveway. Im hoping i can use those parts LOL.

you may have shorted the alternator in the slush. lets hope not.

what is the battery voltage while turning it over? mine is 11.46

No they are not if the gs is a 420a car.
take the alternator and the battery to the supply house and have it checked for serviceability

+1 on the dead battery

YES your battery is dead. foresure. you killed it by turning it over to much.... a clicking means its dead. rolling down the windows doesnt use as much battery as trying to TURN OVER AN ENGINE! LOL.

+1 on dead battery
i dont think his alternator belt would have come off cause he only did one donut he said... and after one donut with an alternator belt off the battery shouldnt die instantly should it?

:aha:CHECK you intercooler pipes... it takes 2 mins and i would bet that that is what happened...
look at ## turbo, and follow the piping that goes below it.... it will go to the passenger side and to the smic (side mount intercooler) which is under your bumper cover. u can see the intercooler from infront of the passenger front wheel. or look through the front of your bumper. check the top and bottom pipe attaching to the intercooler.
it happened to me... and my car would start and than die right away. but i found it before i killed my batter :)

good luck:hellyeah: hope it doesnt cost anything to fix:ohdamn:

okay just got back from trying to fix it. It turns over again so its not the battery. I pulled out the plugs they were fouled so i cahnged them. I connected one plug to a wire and turned it over. no spark on the plug. What next? Checked intercooler piping and its fine. did my distibutor randomly take a sh*t on me?

and i dont know if this has anything to do with it but it does have a 99' GSX ECU in it. and this is a 95' GSX. THe guy told me all it would do is make the car run rich.

It is getting fuel too. I took the in-line off the fuel rail and its shooting fuel out. Im hoping this is nothing major. The guy that sold me the car had it for sale on here for 4,300. im not sure what his s/n is.

I dont know a whole lot about 2g's, but I would check the crank sensor. I THINK it tells the ignition system when to spark. If you got some snow/slush/water on it while you were spinning around, I'm sure it could mess it up.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here. My '90 only has the CAS, but I think the 2g's have a cam sensor and a crank sensor.

Just because there is fuel at the rail doesn't mean the injectors are pulsing... you'll need a noid light to check those

I know the difference between the 95' and 99' is the cam angle sensor or something like that. Which is why my car was running rich. Do you think it is because of the 99' ECU thats in my 95'? He just put that computer in the night before i bought it (Saturday) night. Maybe the ECU took a crap because of that? OR more likely the coil pack?

i dont know if this makes a difference but earlier in the day of driving it i tried the pin 1 to pin 4 thing for the door lock buttons and when i started the car and started driving i forgot i left it in the pins. did that do anything that would of caused my car to stop running later?

Listen to GooeyGus, My second thought on top of your alt. belt coming off would be you got snow/ice/sluch/water up into and behind your timing cover which F'ed up your crank sensor. Crank Pos. sensor is right behind the harmonic balancer/crank pulley, behind that black cover. That sensor controls spark. Along with your ignition coils, and transistor.

When the car is cranking it shows a CEL right? Try to get that code, ill bet its the CPS

2g motors have a crank and cam position sensor that governs spark. The difference between a 95 and 99 ecu is the injector and firing order.

Pull the plugs and put the wires on them. Set them on your valve cover and have someone crank your car over. Watch to see if they are sparking. Works well if its dark FYI
