Okay i just bought a 95' eclipse GSX. I bought it yesterday. Has been running completely fine with no problems. Well today i did a donut in a parking lot and it stalled out on me. I was low on gas so I figured i ran out of gas. I tried to start it again. Started and stalled instantly. Did that one more time. After that nothing. Pushed it to a gas pump and put gas in it. Still nothing. Any ideas on what could of happened? My roommate thinks its the fuel pump. After trying to start is several more times the starter stopped working. It went from turning over to not turning over now. Im lost as ive never had a GSX. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

anyone?

the only code im getting is PO446. it says there is a second code but its the same code saying its pending.

i noticed and im cranking it trying to start it the stock boost gauge starts building boost.

I didnt have the plugs grounded so now i dont actually know if im getting spark. Could my injectors be clogged from running out of fuel? i know the pump works because when i disced the line from the rail it shot fuel out. I just dont know anymore. Im missing work because of this and its frustrating me.

Im going to go see what i can do so i wont be around. If someone could give me a call i can describe a little better whats up with it. My number is 440-417-6378 and my name is Mike. Thanks.

ok, i sold him the car. ALL the mainanace is done on the car except for a oil change.i don't see that it got snow behind the cam/crank sensor, cause they were in new condition with no cracks.
no, the car does not have crankwalk, so you can edit that picture LOL. i am more leaning towards you shorting out the ecu with leaving the wire on the pins.
THAT ONLY WORKS ON THE 420A MODELS. it does not work on the turbo cars. it sounds like you may have shorted something by doing that. i will call you

If you still think is a fuel pump, take of the line from the fuel filter and the fuel rail, and then crank the car,if you see fuel all over the place, then the pump is working.....

hey my phone died so ill give you a call in about an hour.

the car i getting fuel. it not getting spark. jut got back from trying the plugs grounded. still nothing. im talking to joe about the problem. (guy i got the car from) so should be running again soon.

the computer isnt throwing me a code either. the only one was the po446 but i deleted that since i figured it was from the 99 ecu. ill call around and look for a coil pack tomorrow just to find out if this i the reason. im hoping it is. LOL.

Harmonic balancer is behind your crank pulley, keeps things from getting to wobbly as the engine runs. I'm not trying to be funny, but did you check the fuses. I am sure there is one for the ignition and the fuel pump. The starting circuit is two parts, one for cranking and one for running the accesories. Check your relays in tne starting circuit. I am a newb to dsms but i am learning alot, keep us posted.

Why do people still insist on doing this? It is extremely dangerous, especially if he is trying to check spark too. Problems with this way of "checking"....

1. FIRE
2. GAS IN YOUR EYES
3. It does not tell you if you have adequate pressure, only if the fuel pump "runs." It is a hell of a lot easier for the fuel pump to push fuel through and empty hose than it is to build pressure. If your pump can only sustain 10 PSI of pressure then it doesn't matter if you can spray a stream 3 FT or not, it is still BAD.

We have enough of a bad reputation with people turning their cars into F&F cars, lets not add burning them to the ground to the reputation.

Simple advice for anyone trying to fix their cars. Go to your local auto parts store and get the following.

1. Compression Guage - $10
2. Fuel Pressure Guage Kit - $40-$50
3. Noid Light - $5-$10
4. Spark Tester - $5

For about $100 you can SAFELY figure out what system is causeing the issue. After that, consult a manual or post a thread here stating "No Spark on 95 GSX after doughnut"

I'm not bashing the OP. It sounds like he is learning. I just can't stand it when people tell other people the WRONG way to test things.

Where can i find the relay for the ignition? I checked the fuse box under the hood and its not in there.

It's a big golden box behind the radio just in front of the ECU (this is the location for a 1g, pretty sure the 2g is the same or very similar).

When you turn the key on and then back off, about 10 seconds later you should hear a relay "click" behind the radio. This is the MPI (ignition) relay clicking off. If you dont hear the click, you probably have an ECU issue, as the ECU controls that relay.

I'm going to guess that you lost an intercooler hose.... so chek that first.

as far as the other issue, check all your ground wires for corrosion; make sure they are making good contact. or perhaps you just wore the starter out?

it should still start up, it would idle crappy though

actually, i think that the harmonic balancer IS part of the crank pulley:confused:

A harmonic balancer (also called crank pulley damper, crankshaft damper, torsional damper, or vibration damper) is a device connected to the crankshaft of an engine to reduce torsional vibration and serves as a pulley for drive belts.

this pulley sometimes split into pieces and the engine will never start.

Check your harmonic balancer, stick your head on the inside of the drivers front tire and you'll see a water gaurd, pull that off and that reveals a pulley that has 2 belts on it. one being a a/c belt, the other being the waterpump/alt. belt. That pulley will have a black rubber insert it looks like, ive seen many that were tattered and seperated. Sometimes = no start. Start with checking your fuses though, i mean, jsut start pulling fuses, hell you might find/fix another problem while doing it. Joe Sobo from what I know is pretty knowledgable in his posts, he will probably be a good guy to talk to.

I almost just want you to rule out fuel? I mean, you have NO spark, check spark related things.

Check your transistor...It's a big plug that is bolted right to the ignition coil plate. Take off your fuel rail, check the tip of the injectors, clean them. Then unbolt you ignition coils, check for any burning, most the time they visually fry. Replace if you feel necessary.

I just know when ever theres no spark for me, or any of the kids around here, it's always that firgging crank sensor (that's why i like the 1G Cas). It is very believable to me that water could have splashed in there.....If a pebble the size of a pea can flip up behind my crank pulley and magically rip my timing belt off, Im sure you doing donuts spraying ice and snow under the car could have screwed up the CPS up.

Just start checking shit, theres an electrical manual in vfaq for 97+ turbo cars, grab a cheap multimeter, or borrow, and start testing shit.

Good luck. Dont be one of those guys like people i know, that want to fix the problem, but dont want to start getting into stuff, they just hunch back and say..."Well, I wonder ifff....this and that".....I always say, stick your goddamn hands in there for a while, something is bound to show up.

Im just towing it to a mechanic tomorrow. I dont have the money or time to try all these different thigns that could of went wrong. Ive learned my lesson though and ill let you guys know what the problem ended up being. Thanks for all the help everyone.

You shouldn't try to do donuts or burnouts in awd cars you can mess up the drivetrain. Just don't want to see more problems arise then have. As for the issue with the car not starting im not sure. I have a 1G so things are different.

You can have a harmonic balancer or the crank pulley they both do the same thing except for the fact that the harmonic balancer will absorb more of the torsional vibrations. Like a fluid dampner for instance correct me if im wrong.

Must be an electronic problem making my car not start then. Because the boost gauge was fine up until my car wasnt sparking.

2g motors have a crank and cam position sensor that governs spark. The difference between a 95 and 99 ecu is the injector and firing order.

Pull the plugs and put the wires on them. Set them on your valve cover and have someone crank your car over. Watch to see if they are sparking. Works well if its dark FYI

That is the funniest picture i have ever seen!!!!!
