When was the 302 a big block? I wouldn't suggest doing this either. Sorry bud I like the originailty of it but with all the fab you would have to do you couldve bought a running rustang and did all the bolt ons and would've been just as fast. If your going to try and do a RWD V8 swap at least do it to a RWD car, like a RX7 or a Supra. And for the weight of mustangs, I am willing to bet a 5.0 Fox Body weighs the exact same as a AWD TSi. You dont need power to go fast, I had a 1986 RX7 that was fully gutted, I mean fully, and it weighed just under 2000lbs. The car MAYBE made 200hp and would walk Rustangs all over the place and they could never figure out how a 1.3L n/a motor could possible beat their loud @$$ V8 car.

ok so i made a MISTAKE. you guys dont have to comment on it at every post. and i cant even find the 5.0 H/o crate motor on jegs now. so why not go with the 5.4L they have on there. and it is just an idea guys i never claimed to be starting the project tomorrow. If i did this id use some fully gutted car someone is selling, build a custom full car roll cage in other words it would be a dsm inspired funny car. you cant tell me you dont love the idea. im even considering going with the 460 i have out of an old cop car. but it is currently sitting in my dads 56 f-100 that we plan on building for burn out comps.

If you want a look at a DSM inspired Funny car... Take a look at some of the DSMs that have been converted to RWD. If you want us to get excited in any project it should be utilizing the 4G63 engine. You'd find us more inspired if you proposed to us that you'd be dropping a 4G63 in a Fox Body rather that putting a V8 in a DSM.

i know there was a guy that put a small block chevy in one but im thinking a 5.0 H/O five speed tranny with a 9" rear end. gut the whole thing as much as possible and then a full roll cage of course, then make a full sheet metal front skin welding the front bumper, fenders, and hood together as one piece. maybe even cf what do you guys think is lighter? and what is the best way about making the doors and hatch lighter, go with tubing, and a sheet metal skin with a net window, or cf, or fiberglass?

Ok I'm lost why is it that when some one want's to try something not like them their wrong. Let him do what he want's to do. Is it your car no.
If you want to be diffrent do it man and have fun doing it.

thanks at heart im just a guy that loves the sound of a v8. not to mention the blue oval blood flows threw my veins. i believe custom is key. what is the point of looking and being like everyone else. in simple words conformity blows.

i hat e the fox body id rather cut into my focus and make it rear wheel drive. but then id lose my DD. i just like the look of to big of a motor for the car.

at heart im just a guy that loves the sound of a v8....
....among 10,000 others who love the sound of their turbocharged 4-cylinders. You're not going to get much support from the majority.

You've obviously never owned a turbo DSM or you would not be considering such a ridiculous swap. Just tonight a good buddy of mine just ran an 11.88 @ 117 with a tired, 140k-old 6-bolt in his 1G AWD powered by a Holset HX35 at 25psi. Show me a Mustang that can run into the 11's with a STOCK, unmodified engine with 140k on the ticker and I'll gladly jump on your swap wagon.

cant say that i have and even when i do get the joy of owning a turbo awd ill still love the idea of the v8 dsm. or v8 anything for that matter. its deffinetally not one to be classified under the conventional or even reasonable builds its just something for fun. and maybe when im not happy with it as a drag car ill throw it on a truck frame and switch out the tranny and rears and make it a mudder.

Ever look real hard at the Ford logo?

At least they circled the problem....

Most V8 swaps are done in order to gain a power to weight ratio by utilizing a lightweight chassis. That's why RX7s and civics are popular swap recipients. A DSM is not a lightweight chassis no matter how you look at it. Any iron block V8 swap makes very little sense performance-wise and even some aluminum blocks.

Also, adding even more weight to the front end of an already very nose heavy car is going to be horrible for handling. If you want a 5.0L Ford V8 that you can make fast, buy a fox body. They're great for budget speed, one of my favorite cars for sure. But be ready to get your hands dirty and spend a little money if you want to go faster than 12.0 in the 1/4. A stock 1G AWD DSM can at least break into the 12's with not much more than a good driver, a boost controller, a dropped downpipe and some tuning equipment.

Plus, a turbo engine is easy to increase power with, all you have to do is find a way to support more boost and maybe improve airflow a little. With a N/A Ford V8, you're looking at lots more technical engine work or tricky nitrous tuning for the same gains.

If I were going V8, I'd at least be looking for an LSx engine instead of a 302 or 5.4L.

I know nothing about V8 motors. All I know is that this guy told me this is a big block in his 1g Talon. There isn't enough room in the engine bay for the twin turbo's so they're in an enclosure where the rear seats usually are. He's running twin Holsets, but doesn't know the size. He told me "They're big diesel turbos. The brand began with an H."

The intake pipe from the turbos forward is ran up through the cabin. Big 4" piping.

He had it dyno'd. 850hp to the wheels and 1150hp crank est.

Look for it to hit the dragways near Pittsburgh, PA. The day I took these, it was the first time the car had been out.

Oh, and FYI, it's street legal.

SO why did you buy a DSM? If you really want a 5.0 just buy a Mustang. It'll be way cheaper to build. By the time you get done spending all your money converting your DSM to RWD you could have built a pretty quick Mustang.

cannot belive some one would even think of taking somthing so beautiful like a DSM with intelligently
designed powerful engine advanced electronics and destroy it with jookey ford junk. trust me nothing comming from the blue oval will ever come close to the reliability of a mitsu or DSM.
