Ive read some of the post on the site about what tranny fluid to use. Some said not to use penzoil and that BG synchroshift is the best because it won't corrode the synchros. Well i was looking on the internet to order some, and there is BG synchroshift I and synchroshift II. Whats the difference and what should i use in my 98' 5 speed GST? I tried to ask this question in the drivetrain section, but it said that i wasn't aloud to put any post in there??? Also, when i change the fluid, its just like changing the oil right? Somebody at work said that a dealer changed or flushed the tranny fluid out of his bravada, and since it had so many miles on it, and it was flushed, the tranny got fried. I know it may sound stupid, but is there any pre-cautions or special ways that i should change the tranny fluid? and how do you "flush" a transmission? haha sorry for being a dumbass!!!! thats why i put it in the "newbie" section.:(

On a GST use BG Synchroshift II, on a GSX use BG Synchroshift (the regular one). The II is synthetic. Pennzoil Sychromesh is the same thing as the BG Synchroshift, but it is not synthetic and is cheaper. Autozone sells Pennzoil stuff or if you have a superlube in your area, you can get it from there too.

Since you don't have an automatic, you don't "flush" your tranny. Just take the fluid out (by taking off your drian bolt) and replace it by filling up in the filler bolt (the top one). Make sure that you car is in level when you change the tranny fluid.

I use MT-90. Works great.

This topic is getting to be a warhorse topic with an open end since it's all based on opinions only - what one says how it works is just their own personal explanation on how it works for them.

Just that you use either a MOPAR+4, DIA SP-II , or compatible, in your auto tranny. You shove in Dextron or Ford's Type F and that tranny is toast in a heartbeat.

Plus, on a 2G NT (420A motor)manual tranny, you ONLY shove in Texaco MTX FM fluid.

I would go by the specs by Redline for what transmission the fluid is compatible with and the usage.

If you have no probs with the fluid you use, then keep on using it.

ATF isn't like motor oil - no additives or mixing brands are recommended.

You stick to one required fluid. Period.

I wouldn't recommend BG Synchroshift unless your making stockish power. That fluid is just too thin if your making any descent power/torque (took out my 3-4 slider & a bunch of other parts on the way). If your just running minor bolt-ons, it should be fine, otherwise I'd say go for Redline MTL (which should be good for the smaller turbo upgrades, etc & the power levels you see with these). When you start making power with larger turbo's, I'd go for the Redline MT-90 (which is what I'm now running).

Jack from Jack's transmissions either recommends that you use the gear oil for the Evo IX MR from the factory as he says thats the best stuff but if you dont wanna pay 90 bucks for 4 quarts of it then you should mix 50% Redline Heavy Shockproof and 50% Valvoline 70w90 which works basically just as well. Oh and he also said DO NOT use synchroshift, penzoil or royal purple, it tears up the gears and everything in the transmission QUICK.
