420A Best speakers to replace stock ones???

Hi guys,

I was wondering which do you think are the best speakers to replace the stock ones for Eclipse GS 99 if I do not have subwoofer to boost up the audio setup.

I was thinking of Infinity Reference 9613i.

I am trying to upgrade my audio setup in the car and for the time being I don't want to spend on amp and sub, what speakers will give me the best sounds that I could later on enhance with a sub.

Ok there have been ALOT of generic questions asked around here, but this one takes the CAKE.

Try askin what others use, instead of which one is best. There is no best, its an opinionated answer. Some people like alot of midrange, others like bass, and for those who blast talk radio, they like the high end. Get whatever you think sound best, and you can afford. Go to a couple car audio stores and see what they have.

Also car audio stores can be pricey so you may want to stick with something like Bestbuy or similar. Or go to the car audio stores with all the high end stuff, find what you want, and go look on Ebay.

Also a note on rear speakers. Most 6x9s will not fit your stock location. I recommend taking your stock 6x9s out and measuring the depth.

Whenever your talking about audio gear the first thing to do is decide how much your going to spend and work from there. There is no best, only the best you can afford.

People will prefer what they heard. A lot of variables must be considered. Some of the most notable would be price range and how it was installed. Might be amplified by deck or seperate amp? You asking here will alter your judgement. I say go to the store and listen to a bunch yourself that have been properly setup. Or if you are confident in your install and taking risks. Just try some out.

i like alpine personally. Oh and buy all audio stuff off ebay for great deals..

for lows and clarity id go alpine type r or polk. i use alpine type are 6x9 in the rear and 6.5 up front amped with a alpine f450 i love them.

for highs and mids (rock music) infiniti kappas are a good choice but a lil $$$.

but its best to goto your local shop and listen to them all and find what you like the best.

Sorry if the questions may have sounded stupid or very generic. I just didn't know how to put it. Basically I am trying to upgrade my speakers in the car and would like to spend between 150 and 300 bucks for that. I read Crutchfield and some speakers reviews and was just wondering around cause I can obviously not install all of them, check them and then return the speakers I don't like leaving me with the perfect setup.

Let me refrase it then. I am wondering between the following 4 options. Could you please advise me if you were in my position which ones would you pick:

Infinity Reference 9613i
Pioneer TS-A6991R
Polk Audio db690
KENWOOD KFC-6990ie

I am listening to mostly house, dance and other beat-enhanced music.

By the way what is the mounting depth of Eclipse GS 99 in the rear end for 6x9 ones - where can I find that info?

I put some MB Quart 6.5" midbass drivers in my doors. I made my own adapter for that with some plywood using a jigsaw and drill (easy to do). It'll give you the not-too-low bass part of the spectrum that you'll really notice for kick drums, bass guitar, etc. I put new MB Quart 6x9 s in the rear and never got around to replacing the fronts (didn't want to pull the dash and introduce squeaks ) with my BA pod tweets (still in the box after 10 years). And I have 2x10" PG XMax in the hatch. Gives me a nice, full spectrum sound. Two PG amps (ZX450 and ZX500) in the trunk to power the cabin and subs, respectively. Plenty of power to damage my hearing over 10 years .

Give those 6.5" mid-bass drivers some thought. It fills the gap that a lot of folks have between the deep bass and the midrange.

go with polk for the music you listen to, but kenamond is right if you want full bass without a sub ( a large " sub) but i would look into alpine type r or type s speaker they are in the same price range as your 4 options are and imho they have better SQ.

Think about replacing the rear speakers with either the same 6.5" speakers you use up front mounted on an adaptor plate or a midbass only speaker. People seem to have issues with the magnets hitting the fender well with most 6x9 back there, so using a 6.5" speaker allows you to mount it off center and clear the fender.

JL audio...i had then in front and back in my 95 eclipse and the thing sounded AMAZING

and yes ^^ steve is right change the 6x9's to 6.5'w

Look at all the brands, compare them, and choose. Listen to them, compare prices, specs. I went with MTX up front and I am still rocking the stockers in the back for now. I just highly suggest getting a 4-channel amp or equivilent to power them, it sounds so much better that way

a good quality 6.5 will give you close to the same sound as 6x9 in the rear but you will not make as much deep bass with 6.5 but you do gain clarity. in my talon i fit my type r in fine didnt hit at all but on my friends 2g we had to take a hammer to his wheel wel to make the 6x9 fit.

I put some 6.5" Kenwood Excelons in my rear. Sound great but seem a bit quiet. I'm thinking they need a little more power than what my deck can feed it.

I might keep it Kenwood up front too. The Excelon component set looks great. I am sure it sounds great too.

Because I was going to put some new 6 by 9s in the back area ( we are talking on a 1g right? ) So you say Id have to adapt it a little bit to fit the 6 by 5?

Im wondering has anyone ever made a wooden platform on the floor of the hatch area and mounted a sub in a cut out hole of the hatch ( with the bottom half of the sub down where the spare tire well is at? ( which im not worried about a spare tire I have triple A )
Trying to think of something custom that doesnt take up much space because I have two twelves back there now housed in a ( seems like ) truck box which is really heavy and takes up too much room, and I want to get rid of it without loosing my subs... ( Well at least just want to keep one, and I dont feel like buying another box so thats why i thought of that idea... Any opinions)
