Im hitting the tracks in a week or two, and i'd like to put on one last mod before i do. Considering a modest budget, what would be the best mod i can do to get the best time?

I'm a 98 auto GSX with 87,000 on the clock.

I've had my oil, tranny and PS fluids all changed, plugs and wires are about 3 months old. Timing belt and crank pulley are less than a month old.

My mods are an ebay filter, 14b, 1g crushed bov + uicp, rre j-pipe , boost gauge, mbc, and a cf hood.

I was thinking a downpipe would probably be best, but i could use your advice.

Yes, I would definately say a fuel pump, or a downpipe, and open it up while you're at the track

195lp pump? Would this be all i need to run 18psi safely? No fuel cut? Im just getting into the fuel area, so please bare with me yall. Thx.

Are alot of power gains yielded from going turboback?

You can also re-run your rear window washer sprayer up to your side mount to spray the IC, almost a free mod. Also take out your pas. side headlight for cool air to the airfilter.

Amazing...I had never though of that LOL

What about the interior and all? Take out backseats, passenger seat, floormats and what else?

if you want, you can take out the spare tire but it won't make that much of a diference. at your point a pump would be good and safe.

do the fuel pump! :thumb: the extra boost will help out alot! DO NOT go sky high with boost

Around 18-19psi is the highest im willing to go. Will i also need to do the rewire?

Yes, it will give u better pressure from the fuel pump. Some people don't :nono: but it is your car!

should look into a data logger that will help u tune better with your current set up!! :thumb:

so that cool air can heat up once it goes right into the turbo?
cooler in = cooler out

With a 70% Efficient Compressor at 18psi
80F intake = 278F Comprerssor Outlet
120F intake = 333F Compressor Outlet

40F intake diff => 55F diff at the Comp outlet.

FYI.. there is a > 1:1 relationship between intake air temperature reduction and compressor temperature reduction due to the compressor efficiency (or lack therof) :dsm:

I have no clue on how to use a logger. I hope it has insructions, or else i'm screwed.

I personaly would get some exhaust work done before I go cranking up the boost all willie nillie. that would be like you breathing threw a straw all day when you could just open your mouth :boring: I also believe you would benefit more from a free flowing exhaust than an couple psi. that added boost wouldnt help AS MUCH as added boost with an exhaust sys. u dont need to run out and buy a $800sys. go to a muffler shop and get some pipe made and if you know them remove the cat and that actually makes a huge difference. I dropped several tenths when i went from stock to a 3" turbo back. :talon:

If you don't have one already, A Data Logger in a simply PDA format. End of story. No sence modding any more if you have no way to monitor your car.

what would you use in your washer sprayer(i.e. water or water + alcohol(sp))?

Yeah while getting a pump should be soon on your to do list you don't need to get into that right now. If you have no idea how to use a logger than you probably don't know about monitoring knock in relation to timing rpm fuel trims a/f ratio and so on. Just cause you add a pump doesn't mean that cranking the boost up is safe. Best mod you could do right now is "reaserch". Get and Learn how to use a logger. By the way no matter what level of mods your at the best mod is always tunning. I have seen AEM EMS(I understand not a budget part like your looking for) get 80whp out of a car with zero mods other than of course the EMS. I have seen bigg ass turbo's get bolted up and actually make a car slower and make less power. Tunning is the most overlooked part in any car setup. You want a real good mod that isn't really cheap but is worth every penny check to see if you have one or get a eprom ecu and get dsmlink.

Correct, tuning is where you really see big power from your mods. My car ran pig rich until I tuned it with a SAFC II and my datalogger. Now its like a whole new car! Seriously awakened its full potential. Gas mileage is better too! I say get a SAFC II or equivelent device and a palm logger, learn how to tune from reading past threads and youll be beating people with more mods than you.

I'm not one to judge, but if you swing that way that's fnie by me. I'm not sure about the other one's but Defiant get's my pic. He has a sense of humor and with social security rolling in soon you will have that financial security as well. Don't know if he is single or not but I'm assuming so. I say go for it!!!
