For my 99 gst spyder? I have read that a lot of theze auto part store alternators are not up to snuff. Any review commendations on where i can get one?

I am getting a p1500 code and I replaced the computer and front plug with the four wires. If I go to the Saturn alternator will I still get that error code?

P1500

Criteria for that code:

Engine speed is more than 50 RPM. Code will set when voltage from generator FR terminal remains about battery voltage for 20 seconds.

Probable Cause:

Open circuit in generator FR terminal circuit.
Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module (ECM/PCM) failed.

Testing procedure:

  • Ensure the generator 4-pin field connector is connected. Check voltage between ground and field connector terminal No. 4. Test with engine at idle and radiator fan off. In sequence. turn headlights, stoplights and rear defogger switch on then off. Voltage should drop .2-3.5 volts with accessories on. If voltage is not specified, go to the next step. If voltage is specified, replace ECM.

  • Disconnect generator field connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and field connector terminal No. 4. if voltage exists, check field connector and wiring harness between ECM and field connector. Repair as necessary. If the connector and wiring are okay, replace generator. If voltage is not specified, check ECM 16-pin connector, junction 12-pin connector and wiring harness between the ECM and field connector. Repair as necessary. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace ECM.

And yes it would fix that code if the issue lies in the generator (Alternator.).

When it comes to the electronics on these cars I only go OEM, get the right alternator from the dealer the first time, I got one from Autozone had to swap it out 3 times finally got tired and got one from the dealer.

^ u might have some other issues goin on..

Well not sure I may have had some ground issues due to a battery relocate. I made some changes when I put in the new Galant alt and the car has been running great for a year now. I still have an unused Pep Girls ALT setting on the shelf will try it on another car soon.

I have never had good luck on a DSM with after market alt. I went trough about 7 on two different cars.

You need to put a heat shield between your alt and o2 section, The problem is that all that heat is causing it to fail. Heat wrap would also be a plus in that area too.

There is one in the classifieds section for $45 posted by dsmusmc. Says it don't have but 200 miles on it. Couldn't go wrong for$45.
