Best muffler for price?

my custom exhuast system just got finished and it is awesome except for one thing. The ebay muffler (ya i know, you get what u pay for) sucks really bad. It makes my custom 2.5" exhaust sound like a lawnmower. Its so annoying and i know im going to get a ticket. So my question is what is the best muffler to get for under $125? I dont have much money to spend after getting all that custom work done and i am really really dissapointed in the sound. On the bright side, the power increase is awesome and i am very pleased with the added hp and torque. I heard magaflow was good but i dont know what model looks/sounds best. If not magaflow, any other mufflers you guys run that dont sound like hondas? Please help me i am so annoyed.............

I have Flowtech Afterburner on my Laser and it sounds great. It has a deep growl to it, but it dies out after 4500rpms and all I can hear is the engine. It is chambered, but I think it's a pretty good muffler. I have the 4g63, but I've heard it sounds mean on 420a's too. Check into it. I got mine for $52 after S&H. And it isn't all that loud.

I was looking at Ebay and found an HP racing muffler...has anyone heard of them..if so what do u think about them...on ebay the price is 70. ...what do u guys think??

This is kinda off topic, but how much was the custom exhaust work? Did you get an entire cat back system?

Ive been looking to get a system made from the header back, as my exhaust pipe is gettin crappy before the cat (strap fell off the other day, rattles a little bit)

Also, I second the Megan racing muffler, my buddy has one on his accord and it sounds pretty nice for a Honda

price for everything goes as follows...

ssautochrome header = 150 w/ ship
magnaflow cat = 70 w/ship
meghan racing muffler = 90 w/ship
custom flexpipe (made because the ssautochrome header outlet is 2.5" but the flexpipe they give you is only 2"), and custom 2.5" cat-back = 200$ including all mandrel bent pipe and installation.

after all that was said and done it was around 550$, the power added was incredible and i highly reccomend the ssautochrome header IF AND ONLY IF you are going to get a custom flex pipe made for it... if you dont the slip fit connector WILL LEAK !!

i have an arospeed bomb muffler on mine. looks great and sounds amazing. no ricey tone whatsoever, very deep and menacing. cost me about 150 with install at some shop about a year ago so you should be able to get it a little cheaper now

I'm getting mine done (front to back, any size i want) for $175+$100 for custom 4-2-1 header+$20+$15.97 for cherry bomb. I don't know why, but the cherry bombs sound nice and deep and growl when they are placed farther upstream from the outlet on my 1.8. A cherry bomb sounds a little tinney at high RPM's when installed on the end though.

i say just get a stock Turbo GS-T muffler, it looks stealth you dont lose any low end, gain some midrange and it'll sound nice and not ricey

if you want an aftermarket i'd suggest a magnaflow

I agree with ^^^ that is what I have. If you don't want it to be that loud, don't get a magnaflow because they are LOUD. I can't speak of any of the others that people have mentioned.

As I said before, my FlowTech Afterburner rules! It is chamered, but it is quiet and not "ricey" at all. I think it is to quiet for me because I am running stock piping. So, I think I am going to take out a resonator to make it a little louder. You can't hardly hear it at all at idle and it isn't that loud at WOT either. Again, for $57 I think it is a great muffler.

I have the maxspeed muffler.....I haven't ever heard of it..it came with the car when I bought it..it sounds really good tho Ive had lots of comments on how loud and good my car sounds....anyone ever heard of maxspeed ?

i have a powertech r series from dynamic auto design.it sounds great.low throaty not ricey at all.ive had for a year and not a problem.i have the one that looks like the hks style.

I got custom catback piping and an ebay muffler also. The muffler sounded awesome for about a month. Deep growl, not to loud, cuts out around 5k rpm's and all you hear is engine. Now it is feep but choppy sounding at low rpms at about 4 it gets crackly, almost buzzy, but not that bad, and then it cuts out around 5,500rpms. It is a Type-RS N-1 muffler, and i hate it. All my friends claim that it sounds nasty, it resonates inside the car ad makes shit vibrate all the time.

I want a muffler that sounds good, and isnt to loud.

I got a custom 2.5" cat back done at a shop with a magnaflow muffler for $325 with install. not bad. i got the magnaflow from them for $100 bucks. its the street series. only thing i dont like is it sounds ricey in the winter for about the first 10 minutes it runs, but once its warm its loud and deep. its a street series. one draw back is its only 2.25". i was thinking of chopping it off and buying a race series either 2.5" or 3" and welding that on for when i get my turbo. it looks nice too, its not to gigantic so its not incredibly noticable, but you can tell its obviously not stock. 4" polished tip. very satisfied.
