Best Laptop Setup

OK I know some of you have read my posts before but I must admit something. I have years of experience with V-8s. As a matter of fact I've built 2 carbed 350s 3 tuned-port 350s a Magnum 380 and a 293 Hemi. Always had muscle cars and trucks. Never had anything but a V-8. My "import" knowlege is negligable. Now I have my DSM. I'm still in search for my AWD donor but until then I want to start setting up my laptop to be as functional as possible. I'm a control freak My tuned-ports had diag programs for it but thats it. Now, to the question.

What can I get to give me all the control I can ever want using my laptop? I have a PDA but it sucks. What software and hardware can I use? Sorry if this sounds dumb but guess what... It's in the newbie forum so dont

Def. check out Dsmlink man I recommend it The hardest part is just getting a 95 eprom ecu but its worth it.

What else do you need? I can't think if anything that I'd want that DSMlink doesn't offer. Well, except maybe an autotuning feature that reads off a wideband and automatically sets the fuel map to a certain AFR. But that's just the lazy bum in me talking.

you could cut the shit and go stand alone, but if your new to turbo that would be a big big big mistake. Cant stress the tuning enough. And if you think you have it tuned, bring it to a dyno cuz you arent done yet DSMlink is the most successful software for our cars on the market. Its very very user friendly. I have not seen what you have done to your ride yet, but if you havent.. not much point in a "control" device, seeing that there is nothing to tune. As for the AWD donor car, good luck finding a 2g with a good tranny still in tact. Finding those rides for cheap is a pita as it is, let alone with a good drive train n shit. Good luck.

Yep. DSMlink has been released for 1G's now as well. They are still working out the final details about pricing and packaging and stuff but it's out. The website just hasn't been updated about it yet. It has all the V2 features as well as some new ones. You still need an EPROM ecu to run it though.

This is the EPROM. There were 2 on ebay when I looked. OK price too I think.

I agree that I dont want to go further than this sense I'm new to turbo. As for my Donor, All I want to find in a car is the suspension and hookups. Motor and trans arent priorety considering i can find a rebuilt trans on ebay or something. NO FLAMES. I have done tons of research on the AWD conversion.

Well for the computer side I would use the aem setup it comes with four preset programs with one of those being stock. You can tune this with any laptop that uses XP and they send you free updates every year. As for the donor good luck when my transmission broke my car was down for seven months while I waited for a deal on a awd transmission finally I got tired and shelled out 5g's with a clutch and install

First, I want to say that the Spyder GST to AWD conversion is well-respected here, so you won't (well shouldn't) get any flaming for it. Anyway, about DSM Link, honestly if your car is pretty stock its gonna be more of a toy then an actual tuning tool, because it's already in tune from the factory. If you want to get some ideas about where to begin performance-wise, check out the tuning guides here.

Back to tuning, DSMlink can do just about anything you would need to go pretty fast - you really don't need a standalone EMS in a street car, thanks to DSMlink. In my opinion, the AEM and haltek engine management systems are overkill for your car, the money would be well spent elsewhere. And with DSMlink, once you have an EPROM ECU with the DSMlink EPROM in it, you just plug your laptop into the diag port and start tuning! No ripping out wires, installing custom sensors, etc.
