I've been toying with the ideal of getting new cams for my 1991 auto GSX with a small evoIII16G turbo with all supporting mods. Now with my auto I really don't have much off boost power so I don't really don't want cams that would suffer on off boost power. I was checking out this website which is very informative and it said that the HKS 264 Intake 264 Exhaust cams were the only ones that had just as good off boost power if not more power then stock cams. Now I remember reading somewhere that these cams have a power band that is within the 6100 to 6500 rpm range. If I leave my car in drive at WOT the car shifts at about 6600rpm so I was thinking that this power band would be perfect for my auto.

What do you guys think, I want to hear some opinions on this guys.

The auto will shift based on throttle position..You should be able to get it to go to 7k if you want..

You ever think about shifting manually with this.. RoadSurge.com

Or you can get the tcu chipped if you really want it to shift at higher rpms..

Hks cams are really good but pretty pricey..

I have a small 16g and Comp 101200 cams. They fall into that "272" category. Personally, I'd like a little more torque off boost, and this is with a 2g with the smaller head ports and higher compression. If you plan on keeping the small 16g for a while, 264 cams are the way to go.

Are they tweaked enough to notice the difference between the copy and the real thing when driving the car?

I just now saw this :p

I asked Greg at GSC about an upgrade for my HKS 264/264 that would not give up low end torque in my at/awd..

This was his response;
Go with a set of the new S1's they will wake up the engine big time over the
hks 264s and wont hurt the low end...

I would personally get the gsc s2 cams and need to get the beehive springs and retainers with them. Low end only goes so far, I see your awd so if you want quick light to light pulls or want a fast 1/4 time then get the s1's from gsc. But you will notice with all drivetrain lose and depending on your turbo size you will not get the top end that will keep pulling you through the powerband the s2's will give you.

Fp2 cams if you can find them.

See, my Comp 101200's are just like the FP2's and with a small 16g, I can't recommend them unless you have plans to go bigger down the road.

Great idle quality, but they just seem flat between 2.5k and 5k.

I'm a fan of my FP2's. They ran well in my stock 2L, Stock converter, with the reprogrammed TCU WOT shifts were at 8K, pulled strong the whole way.

When I was running a 16g turbo ony auto I went with 264/272 combo.. Worked great. I would look into your future goals.. If you think you will want alot more power later down the line maybe alittle bigger cam setup might be the ticket.. Gives you room to grow. But expect lower vacuum at idle .. Thats the trade off.

HKS cams don't really have much lift. I don't like my DKS 272's.

If I had a small 16G. I would not be looking into 272's at all. That a little too much duration then necessary.

I would go with the GSC S1 set. They should be perfect.
