Well, they're messy if you use too much oil, or if you try to re-install it before the overnight soak-in they recommend in the instructions. Otherwise, they work pretty well. There is no mess. If you touch a properly-oiled K&N or similar ripoff copy, you'd not know it was oiled. And it only has to be done every year or so. Same for the ones that use foam rubber instead of cotton batting.
Otherwise, they make stainless steel things they claim are filters (yeah, you betcha), or you're back to the factory paper-element in the stock filter case.
People around here sure do hear some odd things, though.
I'm not completely convinced by that test. I want to know how the dust was distributed, and how they controlled that it was the same for all filters. But I'm just the skeptical type. I don't think that queer on tv really talks to dead people.Originally posted by clownface

i personally dont like the wet filters cause of problems they might cause if you oil it to much or problems they might even cause if you oil them right.
A light re-oiling doesn't hurt. It also says you can just oil instead of washing. And, I said "or so".Originally posted by gs-t_96
Don't mean to jack the thread but my instructions say to reoil it every 50,000 miles. Am I supose to reoil it every year.

I use the Apexi. 2 years now. I vacumn the outside off every oil change and use compressed air on the inside, It works great.
Oh well. :laugh:Originally posted by jmc94gsx
You should NOT use compressed air while cleaning, I remember this stated clearly in the K&N cleaning instructions, regardless if it's on the in or outside of the filter.
