Plan on a long rod 4g64 build, read the tons of information on 63's but can't find much about the 64's. Does anyone know where I could get the information on 64's, differences ( if any ), vehicles they came in, most desirable and why.

Thanks,

There are a few variants, only one you can use. There's a narrow block and a wide block, you need the wide block. Then there are the 2000+ Eclipse and 1999+ Galant 4G64s that are backwards. You'll need one from a Eclipse Spyder or Galant, before the above-mentioned years, but after 1994. They're all the same really. The narrow block '64s I believe only came in the RWD vehicle to the best of my knowledge.

Hey, first I’d like to thank everyone for the quick response; It was my first post, I’m a very impressed newbie.:thumb:
So to narrow it down per Absit;
I want to find a post '1994, pre '2000 FWD with a wide block 64.
I'll reasearch but does anyone know what make, and model vehicles might meet those requirements?
Is there an easy way to identify a narrow from a wide block?

Again, Thanks

I got mine out of a 97 galant. Just look for a 94 to 97 or a 98-99 with the thrust washers. I think your best bet is out of a 2g spyder or the galant. I cant speak for your area but there are tons of 4g64 galants in the junk yards where i live. LOL

You do not want a WIDE block to fit your transmission bell housing.

Wide 4G64's are out of RWD vehicles such as the Expo Vans and the Mitsu Mighty Max pick-ups.

Since you are newbie, there's no better time than now to get aquianted with the good ol "Search" function...

Click on the link above.
Just under where it says "Page 1 of 3" there is "Search this Forum", click on that, then click on "Advanced Search".

Then where it says, "Search by Keyword", enter 4G64.
Then just under that click the flydown an set it to "Search Titles Only".

Then where it says, "Search in Forums", scroll down until you see that the highlighted forum is, "Stroker Tech".

Then finally at the bottom hit "Save Search Preferences".

It will save the "Search Titles Only" whenever you search.

Oshi.. I can't believe I messed that one up, misread something from RRE.
Anyway, a 99+ (8g) Galant and 00+ (3g) Eclipse has the 4G64 but it's backwards.

I am not sure whether there were any thrust bearing issues with the 7-bolt 4g64, however if you personally prefer a 6-bolt 4g64, your best bet would be a 90-92 Mitsubishi Expo Van. Furthermore, I have pulled two 6-bolt '64's out of a 91 and a 92 Expo. Lastly, I would pick the 4g64 over the g4cs due to a different metallurgy composition. I read the latter on this forum, there was a long thread about the g4cs crankshafts being "weaker."

I used the stroker tech search catagory it'll take a while to digest, I thought I did a good search on the subject before I posted but I didn't search on stroker. I'm a newbie, but an old one, back in the day;

Stroker=Longer than production crank throw
Destroked= Shorter than production crank throw
Stock= Production Crank throw

So, one more question, I looked and do not see a choice to select " resolved "
Is that my responsability?

Thanks again

best one would be off 94 Galant GS (very rare), if you want 7 bolt. With that block, the DOHC head is drop on. What i mean is that you dont have to plug the oil passages on the block as you'd have to with the SOHC 94-98 Galant and Spyder blocks.

yeah the 94 Galant GS is the easiest option.

The G4CS is the most common 6 bolt block.
The Expo vans are hard as #### to find here. Was the dodge caravan with the mitsu engine a rebadged expo?

I would trust the G4CS block.. but I was going build a stroker I would probably buy an eagle crank anyways. Thats just me though.

very few dodge/ply colt vistas, expos and eagle summit wagon/vans had the 4g64, most had either the 4g63 or the 1.8

the 4g64 in the 94 galant dohc, would be the least work to run DOHC turbo, just throw in new pistons(low CR), stock turbo oil setup and maybe new cams

First, low CR pistons are for sissies.
Second, the DOHC 4G64 Galant is pretty super rare, and I'm confident the heads aren't the same as the 4G63T heads, I know the cams aren't. You would already have your cam gears though, so that'd save you all of $50..

The 94 Galant GS has 2g style head (small ports) and the same 47 cc volume of the combustion chamber. The cams that came on them were either the N/A cams that are on 1g Eclipse or the SUPER RARE 6g VR4 AMG 260/264 cams that are still mitsu made. The AMG cams are both "G" stamped.

But n/t pistons are sissies themselves. So he's better of with NORMAL lower comrpression forged pistons. . . A tank of inconsistant gasoline and he'd crack an n/t piston.

. . . If they made affordable cast turbo piston replacements for a 4g63 0.06" overbore, those would be a more affordable alternative. for sube 600whp goals. But I havn't seen them 'off the shelf' ever.
