I am having a belt issue where my motor keeps eating belts....when i first got the car the belts where torn up basically only having like half the belt riding on the pulleys the other have had been eaten off. well i changed them after they broke( which wasnt to long after i got it) with really good gatorback belts from autozone. well now four months later the belt are eating up again(both of them) and it squeals reallllly bad when i first start it up... what could be cause the belt to do this? are the pulleys maybe off line? or to tight? not tight enough? its both belts doing the same thing! any help would be great.....thanks

Make sure all your pulleys are aligned as well. If your crank pulley isn't on far enough, it'll cause a misalignment that can chew up belts. If it's chewing up both belts, it's a likely problem. Should be able to just look and see how the alignment is.

Good answer.

Your geomtry is off. Before you bought the car, was the timing belt done recently? Was there a new crank pulley put on? Suspicions of this pulley not being on far enough are warranted. With the kind of belt chewing you are talking about, I would imagine just a visual would do the trick.

I had the same problem with my ac/ps belt. It turned out to be the tensioner pulley. I finally just gave up on that belt after going through 3 pulleys. 2 junkyard and 1 new and the problem was never resolved. I hear its a common problem with the 420a. I just drive around with my windows down and muscle my way through parking lots. Plus if you give up like I did you have a lot of extra engine bay room after you take the power steering and AC components out.
