ok, i just got my replacement engine friday 3/16 and my baby is out of the garage after 9months. WHOO!:rocks: thanks Niky(96gsdsm) u ###in evil genious :thumb: !

now i have a little problem. OMG belt squeals. ok, so friday i figured a little belt conditioner will fix it. nope. woke up this morning & started her and no squeal. cool, but i shoulda stopped there. i thought :)nono: ), "i'll just put a lil on so it'll be EXTRA good." dumb ass! started her up & she's squealin again. the more i sprayed the more she squealed. no i didn't empty the can on her, i just stopped.

you may be saying "have niky fix it" since he put the engine in (2 1/2 days), but the whole point of tuning is getting your hands dirty. i'd like to do the small stuff like this on my own & learn a thing or two b4 i graduate to a....

but back to my problem.... any ideas, bcuz it seems odd that the more i spray, the more she squeals (save the puns til after its fixed). i i have faith that niky tightend the belts......wait. the battery comes on and stays on periodically. altenator belt?

Don't use belt conditioner at all -- it isn't useful. These are ribbed belts, not v-belts. Just tighten up the belt, or replace it with a new one. Simple as that.

Also, on the back of the dressing can, it says you should apply it with car off.
But yah, I had belt squeak, so I tried to tighten up the alternator one, ended up replacing it.

thanks guys. that thing must have to be "supa-tite"! he's gonna walk me through it tommorow after work. as soon as i started typing it out, it all made sense. 1+1=2 duh! belt dressing is being given to the homeless, im goin out for corned beef! twick, i'm headed to kelly's if u want a beer or just have your ASS handed to u in pool :D .

have a good one fellas, thanks again

Hey, I would take you up on your offer, but I have other things going on today.

I usually go to the Network if I shoot pool (92nd & cleveland). Oh, and I don't think you would hand me my ass -- I am definitely no slouch at pool! :thumb:

Another time!

Good luck with the ride!

I'll fix it tomorrow guys.

The alt. belt was a bit loose but it wasn't squeaking when it came out of my old car (over a year ago) so I took it for granted that it would be sufficient as it was when re-installing it into the new one.

Which also reminds me Meech... you need an oil/filter change... your G/F never bought a filter... and she bought shitty oil. Never send the old lady to the parts store ROFL ) I'd say be gentle to it for 500miles or so and change that shit out for some nice 10w 30 Mobil 1.

I'd hate to see you lose ANOTHER motor due to oil problems. :barf:

Like I said... tomorrow after work.

Some of us need our rides to limp to work.
Others need theirs to go out drinking on St. Patty's day.

And I believe tightening the belt is actually almost easier then that ;)

Ive never found a beltdreesing that works..

get this, i use a ceramic spray (the high temp white spray you put on brake pad backing ) and it works like a charm..no squeal.. but if thé belts loose.. then..

oh,new belts always need retightning ..esp on dsms and hyundais.

Belt dressing only works on cars that have self adjusting tensioners... ours do not. Even then it only works sometimes.

I wouldn't recomend using brake grease... it's ment to be a lubricant... what's happenning is that the belt is most likely still slipping, but you can't hear it cause it's lubed up... and it's not cracking/chunking/glazing because of the same reason... your putting a lubricant on something that should be sticking. :nono:

Oh and the alt. belt that's on there is a good 2 years old.... so ah... it's not exactly the newest thing.

In my oponion... belt dressing is garbage. If it squeaks... something needs to be fixed. Sure maby as a temporary solution to get you to and from the parts store... but that's about it. ... same goes for oil stop leaks... transmission stop leaks... and other "miracle additives" like that.

yes tighening the belt is the best idea...make sure you dont have a cheap belt on there that gives too much tension because it will squeak and eventually snap, so if you have to replace it with a good quality belt, i use the ones from napa but thats just from my experience and ive worked with these cars for over 10 years

Also... and this is for the newbies.... there is an overtightening point at which you pre-maturely wear the bearings of an alternator due to too much stress... I work at a parts store and I see this ALOT
