i recently changed my power steering fluid on my 99 gsx it worked perfectly before and now when i steer (sitting still) it makes the engine stumble a little and the steering wheel jumps slightly from side to side, i can also see the wheel outside "twitching" as the steering wheel. did i forget to bleed a special fitting or is their air in the system? when i drive it the steering wheel is constanly responding wierd. the power steering still works and all but its quit anoying and i just dont want to have to buy a PS pump. also i check to see if it has plenty of fluid in the resivoir when the wheel is either all the way on either side and middle.

Did you bleed the power steering system? It's pretty easy all you have to do istake the cap off and keep going back and fourth without hitting the stoppers.

Actually, the proper way to bleed the ps is to turn the wheel from lock to lock 2-3 times. If you dont turn it all the way to the "stoppers", you wont bleed all the air from the system.

What fluid did you use on the change?

yea last night i did the whole; jack up front end, crank engine and move steering wheel thing from side to side and i had my dad watch for bubbles. did that a few times and it felt a little better but it still does it so i guess i have to do it a lot more... i got some dextron Auto tranny fluid

the first thing to do when bleeding the power steering system is to turn the ps pump pulley by hand (with the engine off, obviously) to get the majority of the bubbles, then left and right (stop to stop) with the car off (works better with wheels of the ground), then stop to stop with engine running. You can actually burn up a power steering pump in a matter of seconds if there is too much air in the lines when it is run. Lets hope you didn't do that.
