Well, I have finally gotten sick of the interior on my 1g to the point where I have decided to make a new one out of fiberglass. I've got a spare center console top in my basement that is just about ready to become a plug for a fiberglass mold to help in the buildup, and I'm keeping my eyes open for a 1g dashboard and center console assembly that I can set up on a stand in the basement so that I can work on it without having to run back out to the car over and over again to test fit everything (and it also would be a lot faster since then I wouldn't have to disassemble my car for pieces to mold all the time).

Eventually the center console and the HVAC controls will become one piece that sweeps down a little more gradually with the stereo openings relocated to face up at more of an angle, and I'll probably scratch the CD player in favor of a 7-inch touch screen, and blends into the gauge panel surround which will have room for two extra 2-1/16" gauges. I figure I'll take care of all the nasty rubber parts before I get started on the main dash pad.

Anyway, any comments, suggestions or questions? I know a lot of people aren't to happy with their 1g interiors, so I'll try to post some step-by-step pictures as the project progresses -- although I am just doing a little work at a time as my schedule permits, so updates may come rather slowly and I may not have time to grab my digital camera before setting down to work.

good luck on the project. Im planning something similar for my tsi but to make room for more gauges and to eliminate some stuff i dont need there anymore

will be keeping an eye on your progress :thumb:

I also am thinking of re-doing my interior, mostly because I have the good fortune of having a friend of mine who runs a fibreglass molding business.

I'll definatley be keeping an eye on this project. :thumb: :talon:

I am actually almost finished fiberglassing my laser's dashpad. It really turned out pretty nice to be my first attempt at fiberglassing (I'm 17 and have only worked on my vintage mustang until dad dropped the laser in my lap...too expensive to run 8mpg through a 850cfm carb :p ) Anyway...as soon as I get it finished Ill post back with pics, should be within the next day or two, currently finishing spot putty and filler primer. :thumb:
