I would have to agree with the starter. I would also recommend replacing the positive and negative cables.

Sounds kind of like there is a ground issue. I know newer cars are different, but I have a 77 Celica that acted about the same way. I replaced my negative cable and it started turning over again. Just a thought.

I went through this too. You have to check all the lines. If there was a fire the line's plastic housing might have melted together and probably corrode the wires.

Another thing, some earlier 4g63 models like my 90 Talon TSi has the ignition and fan relay mounted on top of the battery's positive charge which burn away. Those have to be replace in order to start.

I just bought a 92 eclipse gs from an idiot who thought he knew what he was doing but clearly he didn't know how to do things right. The battery is free to just slide around and twist and turn and move just about anywhere. When I did a panic stop just to test the brakes (which suck) the battery fell off the tray it was sitting on. I was wondering if there is supposed to be something to hold the battery or if this is normal. If there is anyone with ideas about how to keep the battery on the tray any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If the stock hold down bar is missing you can go down 2 roads. Either find a replacement one at a salvage yard or go to your local auto store and buy a generic kit. All you need to do is cut the tie down bars to the proper length and away you go.

Don't drive without one, as it's not safe. If the battery were to flip over it can spill the acid inside on to your engine bay, NOT pretty. Even worse is the fact that you might end up having the Positive terminal hit something and short circuit, possibly causing a fire, really ugly:cry::cry:

X2. I would definitely Do something about that.

you can buy a universal battery tie down at local part stores for $5 or so. I had to use one.

there should be a plastic battery box that the battery sits in instead of just the metal tray.

so recently i had my battery start my car on fire. it ended up melting the fuse block and the insulation from most of the harness by the battery. is there anywhere to get a fuse block? ive tracked down a harness and ill be buying a new battery. and also is there anything else i would need?

eBay should have a few. Or search your local craigslist.

salvage yard, dsm graveyard, mitsubishi graveyard, craigslist ebay maybe. FYI when your done replacing all that go buy yourself a positive side cover. Or do like I did and cut the bracket down and re welded so it sits lower. Thats sucks and I am sorry to hear that it happened. Good luck trying to fix her up man.

Now you know next time you need one of those little red plastic caps that go over the + terminal of the battery. Not to mention your battery should be bolted down.

And don't you dare go telling people your DSM broke cause that is what DSM's DO...tell them you're a Dumbass that you forgot to put your OEM battery terminal cover on. SO they all know its YOUR fault NOT the Cars :)

This seems to be a common problem occuring with DSM's. A factory tie down is a must. Terminal protectors are great cheap investments, and always be careful with strut bars going across the battery. A good grade electrical tape wrapped around the bar might be a good thing to try also.

thanks guys ima go search the pick n pull lot 2moro. i did find a harness on ebay but im not sure if it has the fuse block or not. id ideally like to find a parts car and use it for what i need and part the rest but i need the car back up sooner than later so we'll see.
