Hey guys I was working on the car today and had an idea set-up for when I boost.
I had been planning to cut a small opening at the front of our little 'humps' (hood) to direct colder air above into my engine bay. The air would be pushed about exactly where our battery sits. Now, if you take a look at where the stock airbox is at the lowere driver's side corner, there seems to be some room available right by the fuse box for a battery.

If I swapped out the battery to this location, by the looks of my I/C piping, there's enough room for a filter to sit pretty under the opening (on my hood). :sneaky:

So does this sounds feasible, possible? I don't really see whynot but it's a little different when you jump into things. I think the cold air drawn in from the opening would be great breath of fresh air for my turbo intake.

WHat do you think? Yay, or nhey..

Good luck, its your hood.

Relocating the battery isn't a bad idea, (its a bi@#) but its not a bad idea.

Although if you notice most people who have top mounted intercoolers, stil switch to a front mount, so keep that in mind.

Thats something Ive always been interested in seeing done, but nobody ever does it. I think if one could cut a nice hole into that lump, make a channel inside the hood around the hole, and then slap a black mesh screen in there, it would help with heat dissipation, and look cool to boot.

About the battery relocation...why not just move it to the trunk. Im not sure if the location you have planned will actually work.

Make some pics/diagrams of what youre planning, so we can visualize better. :thumb:

When I get out of work I will post some pics of my bay and what I plan on doing.

Randy, I'm not sure if you thought I was referring to my I/C top mounted or not. But I understand why they do it. My I/C will be front mounted. The two vents leftover will be filled with my oil cooler and tranny oil cooler, leaving no place for fresh air to enter the bay or my intake. Thats primarily why I'm thinking of doing this. It will draw the fresh cold air into my turbo intake. Or so I hope...

Do you mean like this?

Ah ha! Just like that.... almost...

See where his turbo filter is mounted? The box he created near the stock airbox? THATS where I would move my battery. Basically, I would swap the battery to where Corbin's turbo intake is. Then, put MY turbo intake where HIS battery is..

See what I'm saying??

Why not just do it the way Corbin did? His airbox routes cold air directly to the intake... It's nice to be original, but there's no sense in doing things the hard way if there's an easier alternative.

EDIT: Not to mention, his intake is in pretty much the ideal location. It's as isolated from the engine as possible. Sticking the intake all the way back where you want it would probably subject it to more engine heat.

In either case re-locating the battery isn't a big deal, but re-locating the fuse box can be a PITA. If you only want to move it as far as the stock length wires will allow, and you're handy when it comes to making custom brackets, then you should be fine. If you want to move it anywhere else, you'll be in for quite a bit of wire splicing...

Thanks for those links Paul. Gives me a better idea of what I'll be doing.

The reason I would swap where his turbo intake is vs. where I want mine to be is simple :
My location would be further away from the turbo and manifold
My location would be closer to much cooler components (Intake MF, TB, Etc..)
It actually looks like the location of his intake is very far forward from where the most air would flow. On that note, the further back may be better as it allows more leeway for air pushed backwards. The vent on his car seems so far forward that the air must creep under and forward to catch into his intake. IDK though, might just be me. Couple sheets of metal mounted around the intake area (housing) and some heat-resistant thermal tape or sheets would be great to use in keeping the filter isolated and cool.

dammit paul, I was gonna link him to that earlier, but when I looked at corbin's page I only saw the air box, and didn't see the hood, so I figured it was somone elses car, and I didn't have time to look cause I was in class.

Ha. Yeah, he has this page hidden. I think it's under the "Mods" page, rather than the "Installations" one.

i been wondering about that also but instead of moving the battier, making some kind fo fiberglass or plastic air duct right to a short air ram
