battery or alternator?

my car runs fine but wont start on its own, it has to be jumped first. once my car is stopped for about 10 seconds, it wont start again. would this be cause my alternator or battery? thanks

Right so to check if its your battery or alternater jump start the car and disconnect the negative terminal from your battery. If the car dies then your alternater is dead, if it doesnt then its your battery.

This 1950s method isn't recommended for cars with expensive ECUs and other electronics.

Use a volt meter.

If problem still occurs, make sure you have good grounds. Take off the lug on the firewall clean surfaces, make sure ground on trans is good to, that was my problem

it was the battery. being short on time taking the battery out was the easiest was to figure out what was wrong. no harm done
