Hi if anyone could help me figure this out that would be great.

A couple days ago my cars headlights and stuff would stop working when i hit the brake so i looked at the voltage on my hks turbo timer and it read like 9 volts while driving. immediatly i would think this was the alternator but i just replaced it a few months ago. so i took my battery into sears had them test it and it was bad so they gave me a new one. i put that in and it worked fine for about 2 days and now its back down to low voltage and not even starting. would this be my alternator even tho its new or some other problem? and ideas let me know thanks.

Alternator most likely the culprit or the wirings associated with it (fuse or wires unplugged). If your voltmeter is showing 9v means that your car is draining the battery rather than charging it. You can double check this by using a multi-meter which I'm betting will show the same thing. While the car is running voltage should show about 13-14volts and 12.5v at rest.

Is the alternator is putting out current when the car is running? Try and load test the alternator, if its good then the alternator is good. If the alternator is good check the ground side of the battery for a parasidic draw. If the car dies when you leave it, say overnight you defenity have a parasidic draw be it the alternator or some other eletrical compont.

I had the same problem two nights ago. I thought it was my alternator AGAIN. But under closer examination I found the power wire coming from the alternator had come loose from the eyelet. Check all your wiring from the alternator to the battery. Also check the voltage at the battery with a volt meter don't trust your your TT. Mine reads 1/2 volt lower than my meter on the battery.

Hope it helps

Danny
