Hey guys, does the actual ball joint separate from the control arm? The threads are stripped and I cant get the nut back on. I dont want to just buy a whole new control arm and ball joint to fix such a problem.

I grabbed a ball joint/control arm from a 2g with a 420a in it. Seems theres a slight curve at the end that wont work with mine. I ripped the boot off and there is a ring that seems to be holding the ball joint in place. Can this maybe be removed then replaced into my existing control arm?

Any help would be great...Im a broke ass:D

I had this happen to me. I was pulling out of the parking lot at my house and pop, my drivers side ball joint poped out of the straight control arm. It was totally rusted out on the inside of the ball joint boot. So I wound up replacing the entire control arm/ball joint. I felt that by just replacing the ball joint that I would be just asking for trouble being that it was already rusted out.

Go to your local auto parts store and (if they do tool rentals) tell then that you need a "front end service kit". If they don't do tool rental, tell then that you need to buy a ball joint separator/removal tool. They often look like this,

That'll pop 'em right out. Good luck.

I got one of the ball joint kits and piddled around with it. As far as I can tell, this is like a one piece set up and cannot be pushed out like the others. About to take it to a shop and see what they say about pressing it out or possibly fixing the threads. Thanks for all your posts guys!!

Did you ever get it fixed?

The thread is a little old but for information sake- I had to replace mine also, I just bought a new lower control arm from a Mitsu shop for $45 (arm and ball/socket all as once piece). I had to rent a pickle fork to get the old one out but the new one went in with no problems.

Also, I have a 420A, dunno how much difference there is.
