OK heres what i have. a 95 eagle talon tsi fwd. it has been trying to cut out when i hit the throttle but when i feather the throttle it slowly gains rpms but when i drive it it spits and sputters at high rpms and is kinda hesitant in normal driving conditions. its not an electrical or fuel or timing problem. so heres what happened when the problem started... my internal waste gate actuator on my 16g turbo wasn't opening the waste gate up when it was supposed to therefore it was boosting way to much at low rpm and at low idle revs. lets just say when i was revving it up there was boost coming out of the freaking air filter at 3000 rpms! everything in the turbo manifold is white and when looking inside where the manifold attaches to the head the valves were white. major fuel consumption is happening and my coolant lines around the turbo were over expanding from the heat off the turbo. inside the turbo was all white to. so my questions are when everything is white it means burnt right? why is everything white? and why was it boosting so dang much at low rpms? and what happens when the waste gate isn't opening up right? i have a new waste gate actuator coming and new high performance plugs and wires coming as well. so what else should i do? please help me.

p.s. i have alot of knowledge about dsms but this has stumped me completely!!! any info you guys have on this issue would be fantastic because im scared to drive my own car!!!

Isn't white on the exhaust wheel burnt coolant. Last turbo I took off was all white on exhaust wheel from coolant leak in turbo. Just a thought maybe something to look at. Have you done a compression test could be possible head gaskets blown.

alright taking a shot in the dark with out pics.

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem probably from a bad fuel pressure regulator or other fuel system problem. this would cause you to have low fuel pressure and run lean which is which would make your egts go though the roof. This could explain the coolant lines on the turbo expanding. The white coating on everything is also a result of running LEAN. if you where running rich everything would be black not white. Be warned you are doing sever damage to your motor running like this.

things to do
1. change that actuator and do a proper boost leak test.
2. Put a temporary fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line(the in feed on the left side of the motor) chech your fuel pressure. with the vac line OFF the regulator you should have 43.5 psi. if its low or all over the place when you drive around get a new one.
3. if that's not the problem take your maf in and have it tested it could be reading wronge.

edit i just saw it says you have know fuel problems... how do you know do you have a wide band a/f guage?

i don't have any supporting evidence that its not a fuel problem except for the fact that the car is burning through a quarter tank of gas in 20 miles and i have no fuel leaks and the exhaust reeks of fuel

okay hmmm i've never ever seen white from too much fuel. but if you are using that much gas there is deff. something wrong with you fuel system. I would still check the fuel pressure to rule that out. I would also take your maf off and have it tested. They should be able to test the electrical resistance and tell you if its bad. You may want to have you injector resistor box tested too. that's where i would start with the fuel problems

as for the rest do a boost leak test and just rule that out. A boost leak can to make you run really rich because the engine is getting lest air than it thinks. I am baffled on the why everything is white it makes know sense to me.

I had a waste gate actuator go out once but that's all it did was boost all over the place. it still ran good. it would just boost 18 one time 10 another spike and fall off.
It never had and problems with fuel consumption like that.

White residue in your exhaust means you're running too lean which also means your exhaust gas temperatures are way too high.

You have a boost leak..When you get into boost your car probably spits and sputters. Do a boost leak test.

Had a friend of mine with the same problem with it not wanting to gain rpm, he forgot to tighten one of the intercooler pipes and it would mis real bad when it got in to boost or above 3000rpm

Boost leak test that bad boy!

Well since his WGA went out, he must've been boosting like crazy which also means that his ECU was probably "trying" to compensate by injecting more fuel which would explain the bad gas mileage. Even with all that fuel being injected, he was probably still running way too lean.

yeah its probably an on going combination of problems.

OK guys that all sounds like my problems so how do i do a boost leak test? my new actuator is on its way so i will keep you guys up to date on that. it should be here this coming week on Friday or so. can i some how adjust an internal waste gate actuator to open more on less boost? i bought some gumont fuel system cleaner so will it help to clean everything up?

Here you go. YouTube - Boost Leak Testing 201: Using the tool.

Just to add a little bit, use some bubble solution (dishwasher soap with water) and spray anything that is pressurized. Leaks will actually be visible this way.

search boost leak test there are tons of threads.

why do you need it to open sooner. just make sure its hook up right(i.e. the vac lines) and let it do its job!!!

cool thanks for the video. i used to check for leaky tires with soapy water. what would happen if i ran a wide open waste gate all the time?

You wouldn't boost at all..

BTW, to answer your question about adjusting the WGA, there's no way you can do it unless you modify it with some welding skills on a 16G.

ok cool. well i have a welder but my skills arent that great if im not welding on an exaust pipe so ill just wait for the new actuator to get here and my new high performance plugs and wires and ill keep you updated on what happens.
:thumb: thanks everyone for your answers very helpful.

where can i get one if those testers he used in the video cause i have an air compressor already.?

never mind i found one on eBay.
